Jack, your surname sounds more German than it does Welsh.

This calendar year alone I've been asked whether I'm Irish, Flemish, Polish, German, Hungarian, Welsh, Dutch, Norwegian, Swiss or Belgian

If you have a goofy name, then of course everyone is going to get the pronunciation wrong. Why would they know any different?

I would probably say W-aims or way-miss, depends on my mood

Of course everyone is going to.

Pretending to be offended is hilarious though.

Especially if people presume I've just said Williams. Because thats just rude, Williams has three syllables and Wemyss has one. It means they obviously haven't been listening. This means I lose all faith in whoever they are being able to do their job properly or lose faith in their ability hold a reasonable conversation.

This is the point where I begin to take the piss.

Morale s (like 'sh') or Morale sz (like 's(et)')?

My surname is supposidly Irish. If I'm honest, I don't really mind where its from, its a rather rubbish surname!

I aint sure what clan I am from :/ I think my name is originally Irish because it doesnt have the 'mac' which is more Scottish while 'mc' is Irish :)

Totally untrue. http://www.scottishhistory.com/articles/misc/macvsmc.html

Essentially, we're from the same family. Both names meaning Son of Gillean. - It's not an accent that pronounces it as 'clane' and the English who pronounce it 'clean' are pronouncing it incorrectly. (to which, i genuinely harass if they mis-pronounce it more than once...(after fair warning))

Also top line of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLean

Or check the Septs of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_Maclean
