Not bad, already a handful of the 80's songs are in.
So currently 23 out of the 32 maximum player spots are filled, keep joining! First round is already on, see post right above this one, or post #4 for more information! New players are welcome throughout the game.

Couple things about the chart restrictions, to clear up possible confusions:
- The singles charts that I referred in the round restrictions, are the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, and only those two indeed. There is no restriction if a song is featured for example on a chart that classifies only R&B / Rock / eletronic music.
- Not that anyone has asked about it yet, but yeah, the submitted songs must have NEVER reached top 8 on those two charts, and not only during the 80's :)

My favorite song from that era made it to UK 7th place -.-

I'm having a hard time finding just one song that I like and didn't make it to the tops. I guess that the radio industry was already big in the 80's... damn.

Radio industry too, but there was something else too: especially the rise of music videos and launching of different MTV stations :) That changed the whole game back then.
Currently 12 of the 24 already joined players have submitted their 80's songs! And there are songs that both fulfill and don't fulfill the optional restriction. And yeah, still possible for new players to join! See the first posts for more information.

Make that 13 out of 24 now! Currently missing an 80's song from
(any new player) HUN Dániel Vankó ENG Kirsty Ridley CAN Ivelin Dobrev GER Marvin Mackenberg MAS Lyee Chong ALB Samoeni Albanalopolis SCO Kevin Parkinson FIN Mikko Suhonen (choosing last) ESP Ángel Berrón EST Richard Robin Paukson NZL Stewart James
Keep them coming! What's more, a wide variety of years already in this collection. Only three of the years in the timeline of 1980 to 1989 don't yet have a song included in this round 1.

We can scratch Marvin, Lyee and Kevin off that above "missing list" now. Reminders were sent earlier today, there's about two days left to join this 1st round! Bring on your best mullets and/or Air Jordans ;)

Let's update that missing list then.
(+ any new player) HUN Dániel Vankó ENG Kirsty Ridley ALB Samoeni Albanalopolis FIN Mikko Suhonen (choosing last) ESP Ángel Berrón EST Richard Robin Paukson (needs to re-send) NZL Stewart James
Only Stewart and Dániel haven't opened their reminders yet.
I guess I shouldn't tell exact numbers at least, but I can confirm that there are both: some people who have went for that optional restriction, and also some people who have opted to not use it. Will be interesting to see which way will be the better this time!

I put the Round 1 deadline to tomorrow night, but I will be traveling throughout the day. Meaning that those people who submit their song only tomorrow, it might be best to ensure that it fits the restrictions as I don't know how late I will only be online again. Still missing the same gang as in above post.
What's more, new players are still welcome to join the game and find their favourite 80's song ;) Currently 24/32 possible spots are taken so there is space.

One more thing - there was confusion over the optional restriction and the charting in it. For your song to be eligible for that bonus, both (the artist and the song) must have never featured on EITHER chart's top 100, not only on one of those. And not even other (cover) versions of that song. Sorry if some of you may have got the impression that avoiding just one of the charts would be enough.

That's only for the extra bonus points Samo, i'm sure you can find something within the regular boundaries ;)

Quote ( Samoeni Albanalopolis @ April 13th 2018,10:39:51 ) So bro, we need a song and an artist who are not famous? :D Well, artist can actually be just as famous as you want - you just need the song to not have been in the top 8 of those charts which should be very easy to find :) I mean, there may possibly be like 100 000+ such songs! And there are already a few very very famous artists submitted here for this round too ;)
And for the bonus points, maybe the artist needs to be not as famous too.
I need to check quite many pending PM's in my mailbox, so I'll extend tonight's deadline a bit. To 21:30 CET at least!

Just finished going through all the pending PMs and only waiting for Samoeni's R1 song now. I'll give him a few minutes time still to send his 80's song, while I compile that Round 1 song list. He seems to be online too... ;)
----
In the meantime, have a look at Round 2! This time we skip a bit forward and head to 2012...good thing that the world didn't end that year!
Round 2: Straight Outta Length
Theme rules: - The song you submit must be max. 2 minutes long, so not a second over 2:00. So the YouTube video of your song is allowed to exceed 2 minutes, but the song itself is not allowed to. - It has to be a proper song, with a beginning and an ending, so no cut-out fragment of a song - The general rules still apply
Optional restriction: - The song you submit must be max. 60 seconds long AND must have an official music video! The video must not exceed 60 seconds either.
This time, 12-10-8-7-6-5-4-4-4-4-4-4-... optional restriction bonus points will be given to the shortest songs that apply to this restriction, so that shortest one gets +12p. All songs that apply to optional restriction will get at least +4 bonus points.
The deadline for submitting your song is 21:00 CET on Friday 20th April. When you have found a song you like and it applies to above restrictions, PM the YouTube link of your song to me: /gb/NewMail.asp?IDM=52243
Have fun searching for them quickies!

Well, that's one optional restriction I'm not following. Just to begin, the shortest song I can think of is 55 seconds long. If you add the official video, yeah, sorry but no

Damn Samoeni came and sent an ineligible song and then disappeared :D I'll give him until 23:30 CET to submit a song that is eligible for the 80's round, but at then I'll latest post the R1 songs.
Quote ( Julio Asencio @ April 13th 2018,22:22:04 ) Did I get the all time fastest entry record Mikko? x) That must be fast! I'll check all the PMs once I get the R1 song list out. I remember Kevin was under 10 minutes in the last game too, but don't know if as fast. At least that's in the spirit of the quick songs round ;D
Quote ( Cristian Morales @ April 13th 2018,22:28:49 ) Well, that's one optional restriction I'm not following. Just to begin, the shortest song I can think of is 55 seconds long. If you add the official video, yeah, sorry but no Just the 45 seconds of length is definitely not a problem at least, there are hundreds of such songs for sure, if not thousands. Could there be easy bonus points on offer here? :)

With an "official music video"? Plenty with videos, but actually official music videos is surely got to be a lot fewer. Maybe I'm wrong - not looked too much yet.

Maybe I'm wrong - not looked too much yet. Yeah true, surely less WITH music videos. My vague amounts estimations was only referring to the lenght of the songs.
But now that I'm thinking, maybe we can make it 60 seconds in the optional restriction. The music video restriction stands still, though :)
