This is one tragedy where I think the political element is integral. As the truth unfolds any mention of MH17 will be a political statement. The importance and disgust over this event is huge and my personal feeling is that this is one instance where the truth is more important than comparatively petty rules over politics.

It was a statement about war and conflicts and stuff like that, Paul. I felt that it might not be the best idea to have such a statement in the forums.
If I made the wrong decision, I apologize to Finantio for the edit.

I didn't see the statement itself I was referencing the fact that this event is a political one as well as a personal tragedy.

Quote ( Paul Bright @ July 18th 2014,18:41:37 ) I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be the 'Franz Ferdinand' moment of the 21st century.
I certainly hope not. :/
But I would say you're correct on this.

Of course the event itself is political and has much political implications, but the GPRO forum is not the place to discuss this.
While there is mention of "comparatively petty rules over politics", the rule is there for good reason, to avoid conflict between the international community on what is simply a game. As I posted in the other thread, I totally understand people wishing to discuss the political angle, but there are many suitable places to do that and this forum of this game is not the place for it.
Until such time as that changes, then keep the politics away please. If you can't post about it without bringing the political angle in to it, then don't post about it at all. If you wish to discuss politics being permitted, there is a suitable thread out there started by one rather intelligent, baldy man that I'm sure you can find.
As far as this thread goes, please leave it for what it is meant for.
Thank you.

Exactly, Kevin. As horrible as this event is, the individuals in GPRO community would only suffer further distress by debating and creating conflict within the GPRO forums.
The 'wear the black livery as a tribute' thread created for tribute, condolence and remembrance, not for debate.

Put on the livery, hope they can get peace in that area :/

I wasn't seeking to discuss politics just pointing out that it is an inherently political event unlike many things people choose the black livery for!

I may just wear black since I found out one of the 9 Britons was a guy from Bristol who went to the same college as one of my college mates brothers....yeah :/

I will also be wearing the Black for Ron Lefebvre (Am 55).
Back in season 30 when I started this game, it didnt take me long to realize I needed a mentor (this was before the mentoring program was 'official').
I randomly came across Ron's profile, saw how much game experience he had, and that he was a fellow Canadian.
So I took a chance and sent him a PM. Just saying 'Hi, any helpful hints for a newbie to the game?'.
I got a LOT more than I ever asked for, and Ron and I quickly became friends, and eventually Ron convinced his team to invite me to join.
Lol, I remember he once sent me a blistering PM because I hadn't listened to his suggestion of starting a particular wet race on dry tires. 'Sean! If you would have started on those dry tires like I told you, you would have won that race!'
Ron could have easily ignored my initial message to him, but instead he took me under his wing and helped me immeasurably throughout my GPRO life.
Ron passed away last week, I will miss him, but am a better person for having know him.
Condolences to his family and friends.
Race on, Ronaldo Fever!

A couple of weeks ago another fellow member called Ville died. Before that another member died: his brother wrote here in this thread. A lot of people of the game is dying. Very sad. My condolences to Sean and Andrew above who lost a friend.

RIP Ron!
Too many deaths lately in the gpro community. But I guess we have to get used to us all getting older and the community getting bigger, so chances for someone of us to say good bye forever increase. :-(
