Which rookie did the best on their F1 debut?
For me, it must be Bottas. Gutierrez's mistake in quali, as well as Van Der Garde's, eliminate them. Bottas did a good job with a controlled rather than spectacular drive. He gets my vote

Bianchi, matched Bottas' pace in a inferior car for the first 47 laps, pitstops let him down badly.

Jules Bianchi - because he led Marussia and Caterham even though a rookie.

Technically it's Sutil's 2nd debut, so does that count?

Bianchi +1
Next season in the Ferrari's seat instead of Massa. I'll hope for it .....

There's no such thing, world wide we call this a comeback. :P

Surprised to see that 16 people seemed to think that van der Garde or Max Chilton had a good debut.
Clearly it can only be Bianchi, he completely trashed the other Caterham / Marussia cars and was setting midfield lap times during the race, his fastest race lap in Melbourne was exactly as fast as Vettel's fastest lap. His performance in Malaysia was just as impressive. Bianchi is the real deal.

Bianchi did (again) a great job. He could have a future in F1.

Bianchi.
If Maurissa can score a point this season. It'll be Bianchi who gets it them, no doubt about it.
If he can keep himself inside of F1 and get into a decent team. I think he'll have a very bright future in F1.

Jules actually comes from a very famous racing family: the Belgian Bianchi brothers, who raced in Le Mans, rallying and even F1 in the 1960's. The racetrack in Zolder even has a corner named after them. Both feature in Michel Vaillant comics from the '60s, driving for fictional team Vaillante in Le Mans :)
Jules grandfather was Mauro Bianchi. His uncle was Lucien Bianchi, who famously drove a privately entered Cooper to a podium in the GP of Monaco of 1968. Lucien also won many rallys and he won the 24 hours of Le Mans in '68, sharing a Ford GT40 with Pedro Rodriguez. Unfortunately he died one year later in Le Mans.
Since Jules was born in France, he carries a French and no a Belgian passport though.
