Maldonado is just bad, but not very bad. But it comes really bad that he drive only with the money power, not a good talent. He looka very bad on the driving compared to Grosjean, even both were called as 'King of Crash'. As now Grosjean moves to Haas, there will be someone other that will also beat Maldonado at Lotus. Maybe Palmer, Charles Pic, or others.
I don't believe people put Katayama on here. He was not outstanding(even though Murray Walker made an interesting statement about him), but he'd have scored as many points as Satoru Nakajima(who got trashed by Senna&Piquet in the Lotus) with a decent car.
I could mention Aguri&Toshio Suzuki aswell as Hideki Noda and Naoki Hattori, but most of them just suffered from driving for backmarkers, sometimes respectably though(Toshio Suzuki only took part in two races, but in qualifying nearly embarrassed his teammate Comas by being so close to his times).
Not to mention Aguri Suzuki was the first Japanese on the podium, even if he was lucky.
There's been people who only entered a few races & never qualified etc...
Cant remember her name but iirc last female F1 driver to compete failed to qualify in 4 attempts. Last attempt was 9 seconds off the pace. So it's probably her - or someone like her
Maybe Yuki Ide is similar as he was replaced from Super Aguri after only a few races which must take some doing. I don't see why a worst driver list should read like a 'who's who' of Japanese drivers
Ukyo Katayama in particular wasn't as terrible as everyone is remembering. He still drives in endurance racing I think as well

It's a fair comparison: both got thrown straight into the deep end without knowing how to swim. Amati fared probably even worse than Ide - but to be fair to Amati, she was in the Brabham pretty much for the first time in her first qualifying. In comparison, Damon Hill got his F1 debut in the same car after Amati got fired and only qualified twice out of 9 attempts.

In fact Katayama was so decent in the 1994 Tyrrell that Benetton wanted to hire him to partner Michael Schumacher in '95 (although at least partly thanks to Mild Sevens influence). However, Katayama declined the offer...the reason wasn't disclosed back then but later on it turned out he had gotten cancer just before receiving the offer. No wonder he was way worse after 1994.
And still, the modern era drivers are far from the worst "ever". The fifties and sixties had a tonne of rich amateur drivers just trying it out, often 10-20 seconds off the pace - and even the 70's had some completely random entries like Otto Stuppacher, with little to none single seater experience beforehand, and dnq'ing 12 seconds off the pace in his best effort despite decent machinery.
