Fastest is the guy who makes fastest lap, finishing first at the end may be even the slowest car. I mean Caterham for example if they manage to do some WWWWWTTTTTTFFFFFFF ??? trick in qualify :D

Full race time not a lap time is what matters during the race, the person who crosses the line first is clearly the fastest.

You have 'fastest' and 'fastest'. It's not always the case that the fastest driver wins. But on other hand, he was the fastest.. :D

What if the fastest driver in the fastest car with the fastest lap in particular race had tyre puncture right before the finish line because he runned over an invisible hedgehog and did not cross the finish line? was he still the fastest? :D

Like Ayrton Senna's 2nd place finish in Monaco. to Alain Prost. It was too wet for Alain Prost to drive in those conditions.. meanwhile Ayrton was eating up the track 3.5 - 4.0s per lap and would have been in position to pass him next lap. Prost with his injured Ferrari stopped short of the Finish line and Senna went by but, "they" the French and Italian connection deemed the race had finished before that happened.

Ayrton Senna was the fastest of the field in pouring rain started 12th ?? ended second on wet Monaco streets.

That would have been Senna's first race and a win on his first GP! The politics of it all :(

Monaco 1984 was not Senna's first race; it was his first season and it was his first podium, but he raced the full season and I think it was round 5 or 6.

Meanwhile the German Stefan Bellof, equally a rookie in low key equipment, was behind the duo in third place eating the leaders' gap up at even a faster rate...senna wouldn't have kept his lead for 5 laps...

...you can look up what happened to Stefan (who by many was considered even a bigger talent than Ayrton), why he didn't become a legend...

Actually, at the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, Senna had suspension damage, so he would've been unable to continue much further, so if there was no red flag, then he'd retired. Stefan Bellof would not have won either, as Tyrrell were later stripped of all results in 1984.

But he would have won, and Tyrrell wasn't even cheating. They were doing the exact same thing as teams do now - Find holes in the rules and use them to your advantage. It was ridiculous that Tyrrell were stripped of those results.

btw, i can almost bet big money that Kimi won't win this race unlike the poll suggests. He never was especially good round Monte Carlo, apart from the 2005 run with monster-McLaren, plus he tends to make small mistakes in quali.

Hope McLarens do better here.

They should do. They brought upgrades to Spain but they couldn't use the all as they hadn't all gone through scrutineering
