Happy with Scotland's group. Really happy we avoided Groups A and I.
Georgia have been a bit of a hoodoo team for us recently, let's hope we can be professional against them.
Germany will win the group, and hopefully Ireland, Poland and Scotland fight for that second and playoff place. If we can get our first XI out as much as possible, we can do it. :)

England's group is piss easy on paper, but it's likely Gerrard will have retired from international football, so they'll probably finish bottom.

Can't wait to see England take an easy group and turn it into last-gasp qualification.

That optimism is off the scale.

I don't think I've ever been less interested in what came out of a qualifying draw. If you can't make it through to the final as one of the top TWENTY-FOUR countries in Europe then really you're pretty much pointless and you might want to consider focusing your national resources on a sport other than Football in the future.

Easy to say when you have no serious competition ever in your qualifying group.

St Vincent and the Grenadines beg to differ I'm sure.

Italy got their cigars out and feet up already. Easiest group by miles.

Same can be said of those US sport franchises; they play countless games only for half of them to make the playoffs in any event. I mean, what is the point in 84-game Ice Hockey seasons? Baseball and Basketball are just as ridiculous.

Yeah, rather be worldwide P4 in bandy or floorbal than worldwide p50 in football. That's called smart resourcing.

Think of the hot-dog and burger revenue alone. Billions.

And then play a best of SEVEN series just to be sure there can be no upsets :D

Bosnia is a very good team.
Belgium, I consider them even better. Plus they have huge potential... Imho they're one of the favorites for that Euro, let alone the next one.
As for us, not impressive football, but hard to beat, result oriented team. I guess that's what makes the bookers value us, for tournament winners, slightly higher than Bosnia for the time being

Quote ( Joseph Wood @ February 23rd 2014,13:06:57 ) A: Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Iceland, Latvia, Turkey, Czech Republic
I hope that Iceland can do something in this group, but with Turkey, Czech Rep. and Netherlands it's going to be quite hard. I expect Netherlands to top the group and an exciting battle for 2nd and 3rd with Czech Republic, Turkey & Iceland. I hope for Turkey & Iceland to make it through :)

Easy to say when you have no serious competition ever in your qualifying group.
And we never will again because of the decision to extend the final stage to 24 teams.
The extension to 16 made sense given how many more countries there were in Europe with the break-up of the Eastern Bloc and in particular the creation of all the new countries from Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. Extending it to 24 was just a power-play to gain votes for those in charge at UEFA. It's much easier to get over 50% of the votes if you've just made it so that over 50% of the UEFA members now stand realistic chances of qualifying for the European championships.
But the intent of the change was not just to open the finals to more mid-level teams, it was to guarantee that there was no possible chance that any of the major markets would be missing. It was hard enough for those nations to not qualify anyway, only England in 2008 and Russia in 2000 have failed since the 16-team final tournament was introduced.
Michael's right where he compares it to American professional sports, though he misses Major League Soccer, which is just as bad as the NHL. 10 of the 19 teams in the league qualify for the playoffs after a 34 game, 8 MONTH season which is utterly pointless.

1st place for Romania, believe me! Easy Group F
|
|
|
Of the home nations and Ireland:
England will win the group, or at least should do
Wales are not on the same level as Bosnia and will probably finish 3rd
Republic of Ireland & Scotland - Germany and Poland will go through from this group
I think Northern Ireland will finish 2nd in their group behind Greece

A pretty kind draw tbh, no world beaters. Ireland and Scotland got a crap draw there though...Would be nice to see our friends north of the border and to the West finish 2nd and 3rd there, fingers crossed :)
Find it odd that we have 9 groups though...UEFA always have to make qualifying an awakward process just so they can create a cash cow play-off round. Next time just have 8 groups ffs and top 3 go thru, simples. 24 teams is too many anyway, no need to make things confusing.
Quote ( Finn Shaw-McIver @ February 24th 2014,15:45:48 ) England will win the group,
If only it was that straight forward. You watch them lose in Switzerland, draw against them at home...lose to lithuania, draw in Slovenia and get a lucky 1-0 win in Estonia. I don't like the look of any of those away matches. At home, it should be 5 wins against that lot though....should ;)
Quote ( Finn Shaw-McIver @ February 24th 2014,15:45:48 ) Wales are not on the same level as Bosnia and will probably finish 3rd
seriously? Or did you forget that Israel are also in the group! :) They are no pushovers. Plus, Cypriot football has been on the climb in recent seasons, that certainly won't be easy...especially at their place, Cyprus create an amazing atmosphere at home games.
Quote ( Finn Shaw-McIver @ February 24th 2014,15:45:48 ) I think Northern Ireland will finish 2nd in their group behind Greece

I can`t see how extending the European Championship to 24 teams has an effect on USA`s competition in the qualifiers. Or do you guys plan to get involved in the Euro aswell? :P
