Just like all government decisions, they are made insanely slowly and often too late. And people are selfish and stupid.

The situation in Portugal is becoming quite worrying.
I work in a hotel and its quite a strange situation to see almost everyone calling to cancel their booking but, in one hand, we still have lot of spannish persons coming without any kind of problems.
In the other hand we see examples like Macau were they simply closed everything and the effect were outstanding with the numbers os infected persons not growing.
As I remember this next weeks will be the biggest challenge of survival that I can remember to live...

The next 2-4 weeks will be critical. If it is not controlled well, the situation will become even worse.
To be really honest, I think that the measures done by the government of China could work: lock down city; strictly controlled of people from going out; temperature check at all communities; smartphone positioning (that may lead less privacy as you will need to share the data to the government).
For individual, going out less is the most important thing. Wash you hands and WEAR MASKS. I know in many countries, that is not a tradition and only people who are sick wear masks. Believe it or not, that could help to prevent you from the virus.

@Tianhao Chen (P7) I've read a couple of articles here from medical professionals telling people to please not go and buy masks, simply because we don't have enough and we don't want to end up in a situation where the healthcare workers don't have them.
I also read an article about how Hong Kong is controlling the spread very well by using simple anti-contact solutions like masks, gloves and plastic screens.
So yes, these masks could be very useful, if we had a good supply of them.

Basically, China and HK SAR are taking the same measures. Anti-contact is for sure the most useful way.
Regarding supply of masks...that is an issue. Before you have enough supply, maybe just stay at home and avoid unnecessary meeting and social events.
I am not sure whether China can help supply masks as it seems that we have 100 Million masks produced daily. Some of the Automobile manufacturer are turning into producing masks. It seems not too difficult for them to make the switch as long as they have raw materials.

that can be a big part of the solution. The most infected countires could help the other counties with useful information to fight this.
Here in Portugal, we are getting lot of useful information arriving from Italy and the way that they are dealing with this

The best way to prevent yourself from getting COVID-19 is to wash your hands when in contact with ANYTHING. And I mean ANYTHING! COVID-19 IS NOT AN AIRBORNE DISEASE, so you should be able to easily prevent this.

I think Jasper try to make it very clear that he was just joking by adding that anoying way to write that sentence. People can't laugh anymore if they are influenced themselves obviously.

Sadly the biggest threat is not Coronavirus it's the idiots who are panic buying, they are bringing a much much larger group of people in one place at one time than normally occurs, with a large amount of cross contamination points( Trolleys/Baskets, shelves and even the products themselves)
Also if you are one of those people , remember if your neighbours can't access the basics to wash their hands and maintain personal hygiene they will if they get infected spread it into your local area increasing the risk to you.
So buy only what you need and the supermarkets won't run out of anything or suddenly shut down on mass, god forbid if we had something properly apocalyptic happen.

Tesco sent me an email saying that they will only allow common-sense quantities of stock per person, and will attempt their best to choose suitable substitutes in the event the wanted products are unavailable. Also they say when they arrive at your door they will ask you if you are currently in self-isolation, will not enter your home, will use clean bags, will offer a squirt of hand-sanitizer at your doorstep, and will ask for your permission to sign for the delivery on your behalf.
Nothing there is inconvenient and everything helps settle the panic and limits spread, which is perfect. We need more things like this.

That's good to know. And you also have Sainsbury's, ASDA, ALDI, Lidl, Spar., M&S.....
That should be enough.

It doesn't, really. The ability to make humor out of any situation is a very good one. Jaspers joke was meant to ridicule people that think what he said.

Any situation means also people (loved ones) dying because of covid-19. I wonder if you would say the same if it was someone in your family or close environment ?
I do of course agree that humor is a good way to deal with difficult situations, but I don't think that people on this website who are affected by this situation, (being in quarantain or who just have lost a family member), can really appreciate it.
