First year following Le Mans at all... and a couple questions...
Is it extremely rare for a non-LMP1 to finish at the top of the overall classification? I understand there are generally more than 6 LMP1s in the race, correct? Thus, I assume it is rare (or never happened before).

Never happened before in the context that LMP1 in its current form was introduced in 1999 iirc and after that they have won all Le Mans overall races.
However during the nineties in some years they could occasionally find big enough loopholes in the GT class rulesets that they could beat the Prototypes outright.
Unfortunatly unless it runs into problems, it looks like the #2 will win Le Mans still, which is a miracle in itself, but would've been great seeing an LMP2 winning
Im starting to believe that there is a GPRO conspiracy against Japanese manufacturers regarding randoms. I can tell that because of the lack of Japanese (there is a lot of "racing" people in that island) playing this game somehow has something to do with Honda and Toyota failures. And is GPRO fault. Or Japanese fault. Or your fault. Who knows.
XD
Bye bye, from horrible cold and windy Pilar/Buenos Aires/Argentina/South America/Planet Earth

And yet Mazda somehow managed to avoid it :P
Also, nice battle in GTE Pro... until Jordan Taylor choked like a king :P

Did the corvette break after going through the sand at the chicane?
It got a slow puncture, probably the cause of the lock-up. Which was probably caused by the bash with the Aston the lap before. Little bit controversial but a cool ending to the race at least.
Boring?? Porsche #2 was more than 1h in the pits and droped more than 30 positions, being 19 laps behind the leader when he returned to the race. Then we had LMP2 fighting for the top 3.

We have tickets for grandstand 12
Very nice view but awfully cramped seats for a man my size, even Gregory who is a fair bit smaller wasn't too comfortable on them so we didn't use them much. There were enough other good spots along the track to watch the cars comming by. And the thrill of hearing most of all these cars coming by never went away :)

Of course we'll visit the pitlane on tuesday afternoon for some autographs from Jan lammers and hopefully a small chat with Rubens Barricello and some more. And we'll say hi to fellow (ex) GPRO manager Fernando Rees too.
Lots of people were interested to get a glimpse and an autograph from Rubens so the chat with him was as small as could be, but we had a laugh about something he mentioned on dutch tv long ago so that was nice :) Fenando Rees had some more time and was pleasantly surprised to see someone in a GPRO shirt, now signed by him, at his table. He said that he really oughta come bak to "us guys", but understandably he probably doesn't have that much time to play. I told him we have moving cars now so that might be an incentive for him to come back some time.
Rebellion #13 disqualified for "intentional bodywork modification".
Bad for them, since they lose both the 2nd place in LMP2, and 3rd place overall that way :P
NOT funny.
Not to mention the "modification" was intentional because they drilled a freaking hole at the back of the engine cover to be able to hit a sensor with a hammer and get the car going.
They actually LOST time without any performance gain.
About as much BS as the LED lights disaster in GTE last year.
ACO/FIA(French) full of shit once again.

17 here, rather comfy I'd say, since it's one of the two reserved grandstands :D

Off topic to this thread but I think its the best place for it.
Its been confirmed today that in 2020 the Asian Le Mans series will head down under to the new(ish) Tailem Bend Circuit in South Australia. This, combined with the planned LMP3 series for Australia, will hopefully bring endurance racing a new wave of popularity here. I'm excited to have a world class series here and to be able to have an endurance race (with prototype cars) here in Aus and in a timezone I can watch. I just hope that our TV channels try and get rights for it.
