I think parts like the wings would break up , and also if they turn rather than laying flat their ability to float changes

Quote ( Nigel Hawken @ March 16th 2014,22:35:05 ) and also if they turn rather than laying flat their ability to float changes That's true, the waves could turn them if they had broken off in a dozen pieces or so.

We also know that the actions of the sea causes crashed planes to sink eventually, otherwise our oceans would be strewn with WW2 fighters and safe navigation would be impossible.

And keep in mind that not the whole of the plane sinks, some of it is carried by the currents and will either turn up in beaches or be taken down to the ocean floor some hundreds of miles away from the crash site. The smaller pieces that float usually follow the first route. :)

What I do not understand is why the Malaysian government having now worked out the plane did one change of direction unnotcied, aren't considering that it went round in a complete circle and headed off back out towards the Pacific Ocean or up to Japan.
Maybe they should have a quick check at Kuala Lumpur airport, just incase

This is just a guess, but maybe it has to do with the fuel onboard? to make a 180º turn they'd have to travel a considerable extra distance...

And it probably was, after the war. But it will have been washed onto beaches. And just bits, not entire planes floating on the surface...

i would also hazard a guess that the construction of a ww2 bomber/ fighter is somewhat different to a modern airliner.
|
|
|
yes, as they were much heavier
they find fully intact WW2 fighter planes, wings still attached. They wont find a fully intact modern passenger plane, the wings are not strong enough

And I'm sure the modern planes are built to float on water. At least for some time (and mostly intact).

Quote ( Jack Benson @ March 16th 2014,19:46:45 ) Apparently they conducted a search of the pilots house.
He must have a big house if they think he is hiding it in there.
They are not looking for the plane in that house mind you. The flight simulator owned by the pilot is the question here, and that thing is the one that they're trying to analyze.

Sort of suggests a little bit more that the plane landed somewhere. Assume if someone hijacked the plane just to commit suicide they would just take control and ditch it quick

What your feel if your relatives is on the plane? You think it's so funny to make a joke in this issue? Such a childish.
