don't hold me to this but. . . I would hazard a guess something sharp punctured your tire about 2 laps after your first pit, it was probably: again don't hold me to this, just lying on the track!

Jack, we call this the random technical problem.
It happens even if you have a good car, good driver and race in good condition and good day. There is nothing we all can do to prevent this, but it just happen randomly.

Most probably know this, but someone with less experience might also read the thread, so it's worth to note that.

Bad luck, mate! This has happened to me too, a long time ago. But as Mikko said, this is very rare to happen. Very probably you are free of that happening again this session. ;)

The worst random to me seems when u buy new engine and it breaks half way through the race... So much money gos to bin, especially when u are trying to save as much as you can or push for retention :/

It happened to me 2 races ago at Magny Cours, 2 laps from home while I was sitting comfortable in 5th place after just overtaking my cup rival. Out of the race, credited with 34th and one against in the cup.
Bounced back yesterday at Brands Hatch with a win!
As Mikko said, this is thankfully rare. I can't actually remember the last time it happened to me, but it is important to know that it can and that there is life after a random.
Good Luck.

It's not as rare as it should be. Personally it should be non existent. However on average these randoms happen once per season. They may be named differently but they happen. The sooner they remove them the better.
Just to be clear however. Not all smoking cars are randoms. If a part smokes and its due to finish the race less than 90%. This is a true random contrary to what some might say.
Newbies sometimes run high risks and smoke a lot assuming these are randoms. They're not.
Start crashes are also not random but sadly you can be bumped off the track by another manager who is risking a start crash.

Not all randoms are equal. Not even close. Which is why true randoms should be removed.

Had puncture last night with 5 laps remaining. I have had 2 punctures this season and 3 randoms in last 13 races. But before that I didn't have a random for about 40 races, that was also a race ending puncture. Once a season does sound about right.
I have no issue with tech problems happening but maybe they could be more varied and always seem to cause huge time loss or a pit stop. what about the many small issues that might happen and only knock a couple of tenths off a lap.

Counter argument: they shouldn’t be removed but the game balance should be altered to limit the impact. Many ways to do that, but my experiences are that the community here isn’t open minded enough to do anything different to what they do now. So enjoy your randoms!

I wouldn't like to see them removed completely either, but reduced slightly or a vey subtle change of this kind is also interesting

Are you insinuating you can manage true randoms?

How often someone stops for repairs? Most of the time random is fatal. You or someone crashes into you, without an ability to fix a problem. Haven't seen when someone got tire puncture and had the ability to fix it. Only wings seems to be able to fix, but why we cant save tires I wonder, by doing unplanned pit.

I think about half of the punctures I've seen were fixed by a pit stop.

And at Magny Cours, I was in the wrong side of this half .... (the dark side of the force I should fear .... ;-))
("Technical problems Lap 71 Your car had a puncture and could not finish the race" ......... just 2 laps remaining .....)

So If you choose not to see, then there are no events. (not seen, doesn't exist) :) :D
btw; I had such event this season,
(Lap xx) Puncture, Pit so... limped to pit for a new tyre
