Awesome!! We are 20 already! Welcome guys and thank you Mikko for the update.
I'll be posting the round 1 theme in a couple of hours! The deadline to send your entry will be the start of Sochi GP, next Tuesday. 6 days to find a valid entry is more than enough I hope.
Therefore, as Jun said:
The deadline for submitting your song is 20:00 CET on Tuesday, 30th April
That doesn't mean that new players can't join after round1 though! The nature of this silly game allows new players at any time :)
Have you ever wondered what happened with that catchy song you used to listen to in the radio but never managed to find out the band/artist name afterwards? This is your chance to find that poor artist that never managed to succeed again worldwide wise!
Round 1: There is life after a One Hit Wonder
Theme rules: - The song you submit must appear in both top 50s of UK and US (Billboard) singles' charts, which can be checked here: http://www.umdmusic.com/default.asp?Lang=English&Chart=A - The band/artist chosen must not appear in the top100 of both billboards with any other song. - Songs that have been subsequently remastered/versioned (even by another artist) will be eligible in their original version. - The general rules still apply
Optional restriction: (so it is up to each players to decide themselves whether they want to use this or not) - The song you submit must be on the top 10 of one of the above mentioned UK or US (Billboard) singles' charts. This time, +8 optional restriction bonus points will be given to any song that applies to the optional restriction. Keep in mind that the other rules still apply to this restriction.
The deadline for submitting your song is 20:00 CET on Tuesday 30th April. When you have found a song you like and it applies to above restrictions, PM the YouTube link of your song to me: /gb/NewMail.asp?IDM=426051
I'll be choosing last in this round, have fun searching!!

Yes, that's the rule (almost) always. However, there was a "greatest hits" round /gb/forum/ViewTopic.asp?TopicId=27833&Page=1 that asked only for repeating songs.
Exactly, as Ania said there might be a few songs that appear twice due to that special round.
To be fair, I have made a little adjustment to make a bit easier the optional restriction: now it will be enough if your song appears in the top10 of one of the charts, and not both as stated previously
... and since I already got a couple of entries from different players that have been versioned past their time... I will clarify it:
- Songs that have been subsequently remastered/versioned (even by another artist) will be eligible in their original version. Will add this to the rules so everybody is aware.
I deleted a few posts and put them all in the same post, this way the Round 1 theme isn't too hidden.
There are 6 more slots in case anyone would like to join, don't be afraid! :)
5 years ago there was a previous One Hit Wonder Edition, today we remember this wonderful song that was submitted by Mikko and had a more than deserved 3rd place that edition!
Seems like a lot of you are struggling to find one song, on the other hand we have 4 people that already sent a valid entry. If we all get to an agreement I wouldn't mind to make the r1 rules easier with 2 conditions:
- Optional restriction would still be the same, this way we respect those who made an effort to find a suitable song so far. - People who have already sent their entries may change/look for a new song if they would want it.
Anyway, before posting this round I made a list of valid entries and trust me, it is long :P

Julio, all I can think of when I listen to this is of Los Morancos :)
Was such a fun sketch I still remember, one of the first virals in the Nokia times. They are from Sevilla and I've seen them a couple of times here :P
Ooh sounds like an awesome round! Although I haven't even started searching yet :D
On the other hand I think I may have a couple songs already on my shortlist from previous editions. If people are looking for ideas, see here what the previous a bit different one-hit-wonder AND one-hit-blunder rounds produced:
Mikko, do you keep any kind of record of how many entries have been rejected in every round? I think we may have a new record and it's only been 2 days x)
Seriously though, I encourage everyone to read post #49 because I don't really want to make this round look like a Sherlock Holmes "finding a song" story.
Is there something in the rules that I'm missing and that makes it much harder than it looks like? I found a couple of songs that satisfy all the criteria (or so I think) and some more that I need to search GPROvision sheet but otherwise good too.
Ivelin is surprising me the most, you won 1st and twice 2nd in two previous rounds with this theme, I'm sure you had more songs on the shortlist then. Is the current round harder than those?

The previous edition had the restriction to top 50 and not top 100 for another song. Also, the song didn't need to be in both charts.
The problem is, getting into the top 100 after you've had a hit is not difficult. Therefore, most artists have at least another song in the top 100.
Oh I see. It can make a difference indeed. Although I noticed many of the previous editions' songs fit the current restriction too.

That's not a true one hit wonder then :D
E: I don't need making the rules easier but I'm fine with a change to top50. I was afraid the needed change was much bigger, making the round less interesting.
Calum MacKinnon just joined the game and he did send a valid entry ;)
Players that have submitted a song so far:
Gareth Griffiths Jed Howorth Josh Clark Keith Partridge Calum MacKinnon
Missing songs from:
Julio Asencio (choosing last) Aaron Littlewood Ivelin Dobrev Jun Ho Guilherme Franco Marvin Mackenberg Mikko Suhonen Stuart Foster Ania Piekarska Lyee Chong Quentin Rieg Sam Wrycraft Ángel Berrón Miel Soeterbroek Tom Byrne Martynas Bražėnas

This was my spirit when thinking of the rules for this round, One hit wonder is meant to be the only "known" song from an artist.
Let's give it one more day before we decide to change anything, I'm sure at least half of the players list haven't had the time yet to start looking for a song in the first place.... so it doesn't seem fair to change anything for the time given, even more when a few players have already found their sound, I'm pretty sure Keith is more than happy with his song :D
