1980 was the last one.

That's why I won't ever remember them being one. They have them in the World Cup, but not the Euros. Pointless games anyway, IMO. Nothing more than a glorified friendly once a team's been knocked out.

France is completely favourite.

Let's try to do something anyway. It will be hard.

I'd say France are certainly favourites but anything can happen in a one off game. I think Portugal have been pretty poor for most of the tournament, but that really doesn't matter; they still got through to the final and it's now all about that one off game. Portugal could play poorly and be well beaten or play poorly and still win this, but if they actually play to the level they are capable of, then I'd expect it to be pretty close.

I assumed there was a 3rd place game, and was planning my weekend around watching one last Welsh game.

Then read articles about the open top bus tour of Cardiff for today so had to look it up

Last two times France reached the Euro finals, they won.

Portugal last beat France in 1975. In a friendly. Never in an official match (played 3 times, twice ended with a golden goal).

But these are just statistics. We have seen statistics beaten before.

I hope for a good game on Sunday evening.

And like Kevin said above ... it's one game. A goal (even an own goal) could decide the trophy.

I don't really support either team, so I don't care who wins. :)

Although I do like the way Griezmann plays a lot. Still ... I would've preferred another final. But things don't always happen the way you want them to happen. :)

Agree, really nice player. Probably the only one from France I want to see scoring.

Portugal will win 1-0, with Ronaldo the scorer.

Please don't do that to us. Pepe 1-0 would be bearable, not ronaldo.

Why would you say he's mediocre? Saying he's slow is justified and correct, but mediocre? He's played quite well, scored 3 goals (2 of them important) and has 2 assists (especially for Griezmann's second goal vs Ireland). Also, an interesting stat (because I know you like them):

Precisely because he's slow. I would've played Griezmann upfront instead of him.

But then again, I'm no Didier Deschamps. :)

I would put this guy from Leicester City on starting 11 to play closely and directly against C.Ronaldo. Taking out him is main key to success. But i'm not Deschamps either. For me 2 players of the tournament is Griezman and Umtiti.

Gignac is utter dross. Better than Eder though. Would be funny seeing those two clowns leading the lines in a Euros final.

Griezmann has scored 5 goals in 2.5 games of playing behind Giroud. I'm no fan of Giroud either but

People really underestimate Portugal apart from Ronaldo, and thats been true since beginning of tournament. They've been quite faultless defensively after the Hungary game.

What you need to stop to make Portugal choke is their wings. Deschamps should start with 2 a bit more defensive options on the wings imo, and have Payet as a sub.

No, correction ... one of his goals was scored playing behind Gignac.

But was he really playing behind them? It seemed like he played alongside them.

Giroud in the field allows Griezmann to have more freedom since our defenders will have to mark the central forward. Having our defenders marking Griezmann is the same as Portugal not playing with a central forward, except we dont use it because we dont have any.

Technically, France is playing 4-4-1-1 (maybe even 4-4-2), not 4-5-1. So Griezmann needs to be marked either way.

Having him behind the central forward definitely makes marking harder for us. We took a while to mark Bale and he got some chances in 1st half.

If we had André Silva in the national team Ronaldo would definitely play in his prefered position and have the freedom he doesnt have right now.
