Think about all the amounts you can possibly fill out when offering a contract other than just salary per race to a driver.
There lies your answer.
Overall the other contract must have been better than yours

You're forgetting 4 other parts of the offers that impact on the driver's decision quite considerably......
(Actually maybe only 3 in this case as you have already mentioned 17 races - and contract length is one of the 4 factors you have ignored)

Dumb newbie question: I have a good pilot (http://www.gpro.net/gb/DriverProfile.asp?ID=15292) but he done raised his OA above 85, so Im gonna lose him by the end of the season
Should I hire a new one? He still got 12 races left and Im around 14.000.000 in money. I understand that if I change before the end of season, I will keep the pilot it even if I stay on rookie (I probably will), is that right?

As long as he still has races remaining on his contract and his OA is not above 85 aafter the final race of the season then, yes, you will keep him if you remain in Rookie.

If you change driver now you will have to pay compensation for your current driver which is half his remaining contract (in this case 12*270,000)
You will only keep him if his OA is 85 and below. As soon as he hit 86 you risk losing him regardless of the remaining time left on the contract
Depends on the drivers motivation you can lower it by going below -15m before the end of the season (before R17 but not too early) and this will give the driver 0 motivation and might drop his OA below 85

Yes, I understand I will have to pay compensation, but maybe is still a good idea to replace him? Because the current one is 93 OA
But I didnt knew I could lower his OA by lowering his motivation, but how can I do that? Dude is pretty motivated right now (250)

So just before the R17 spend all your money until you hit below -15m and then the motivation will go down to 0 after the quali deadline. If its still below -15m after race update it'l still be 0

Should do if the OA currently doesnt change too much. Motivation has a huge impact on the current OA which is why a lot of the time OA doesn't mean much as motivation has quite a bit of influence on it

How can I fix issues with my car?? I have gears at 100% and dont know if the car will make it and I cant practice because of it

Go to 'Update Car' and buy new parts...

The car most probably won't make it. You need to go to /gb/UpdateCar.asp and buy a new gear (please note that if you want to buy/downgrade other parts, you have to do it during the same operation).
Having part wear at 100% shouldn't influence your possibility to practice. Maybe you meant testing?

Hello,
I have a driver with OA of over 85, so I can't extend contract with him.
I also obviously can't offer contract to driver from transfer list with OA of over 85.
So, when I go to Amatuer my only choice is to hire new driver with OA 85 early or rush before the first race to try and grab some decent driver?

Hi Piotr, welcome to the site
OA limit for Amateur category is 110. So, if you wait for 1st market next season (and you are, effectively, at Amateur by then), you can hire a driver up to 110OA.

Good Afternoon All,
Very straightforward question, I understand that getting a new driver will mean having to pay compensation to the previous driver of (Salary*50%)*Races left on contract, my question is, does this apply to the driver you were given at the start, I have been given a driver with 10 contracted races and a salary of over £1m. As it is the driver I have been given, is the compensation waived?
