Looking at how he checks every intersection before crossing I thought he's looking for a lorry coming in
Wouldnt be too surprised

On a serious note, its so straight and fast it looks incredibly scary. Like it!
Like the old town too, gotta go to Baku some day soon.

Is there even two cars width past the castle? lol.

Looks like a very fast track indeed and not very demanding on tyres, the corners look quite easy. Hope they're bringing ultra soft to it, will be a 1 stop I think otherwise.

On a new surface i am quite sure they will not at all bring ultra softs
New surfaces usually means excessive tyre wear, after a few years yes years the asphalt settles in and becomes less stressing on the tyres.

Hm I had the impression that there`s less grip therefore less wear on new asphalt
Or is it like less grip -> more sliding -> more wear?

so how is ice? sliding all the time = less ware
Unless you spin tyres i would say the more fricition the more wear.

Recent track to show settle in is Austin which had extreme wear the first 2 seasons
now it has gotten a bit better.

I drove these streets and I can assure that grip is high and it seems tyre wear will be at least medium if no high.

Well, Sochi wear is stupid low and that was a fresh surface. Maybe climate plays a part? Sochi wasn't the warmest. Not sure how the weather is in Baku tho.

Austin was more demanding on the tyres because of quite a few twisty sections and a couple of hard braking zones (first and last corners especially). Baku does not look like that :/

Sochi is a polite track to say the least, and this one in Baku looks fairly similar, though you'd expect the fact it being a faster track, maybe the wear will at least be a little heavier than Sochi. I don't think it will be like Austin at all.

Very hot and due to the fact that the track next to the sea - high humidity.

I'm annoyed at all the moaners in the YouTube comment section of the video saying that it's a sh*t track; they'll be watching anything else that weekend; "this is terrible", etc... Just because it isn't as glamorous or curvy as the classic circuits, that doesn't mean it's automatically going to be a crap race. Just give it a chance, and if it's appallingly bad on the day, only then can you start moaning. I think it looks great, some of the overtakes will be sensational and the average speed will be through the roof, which always makes for a good spectacle.

I saw on the news only Button & Rosberg are criticizing the track ... safety / runoff etc.

But seriously, something is wrong in the world when those 2 drivers aren't moaning about something.

Hamilton is also.. but Alonso is way faster than Button.. but it's only the practices yet.

Ferrari is too slow until they find the rhythm.. god know where they might need to look for it

And conveniently the red flag took an age to come out, giving rosberg the time to get over the line and set his time
Gutted for Perez, the flag should've been out earlier and given Force India the pole

To be honest it looks like it could have been covered with just a yellow because Hamilton made a good move by parking the car to a safer spot just after the corner.

If it would've been out quicker, technically Rosberg could've come out and set a time. Or would it take more than 2:10 to do an outlap?

But yeah, I don't think this was done properly. The red flag should've come out faster.

Ironic that Hamilton was panning drivers moaning (Button?) about them having safety concerns during free practise and hits the jagged wall.

Going to be interesting tomorrow if someone has to use an escape 'road' only to find someone is already in it nevermind passing back markers.
