Final gets underway with tight first race

https://worldcup.cani-malati.com/index.php?area=results

The Final of the inaugural GPRO World Cup got underway tonight and it is Germany that has narrowly taken the first point against England. The team contains no managers from Elite or Master and demonstrates that a solid team effort can compete with star performances in the top tiers.

Three German team members won their race in Amateur, another two managers mounted the podium and the other two contributed decent points as well. England also took two wins and a further three podiums, but it was not enough: Germany 26.4, England 24. A tight result that undoubtedly will bring more sparks in the coming races.

Argentina and France have started their 3rd place play-off. Some organisational issues meant that the Team Captains were informed about this game way too late, so only the core of 6 members in each team took part today. Argentina comfortably took the first point from France.

To be continued...

Curious to ask Jasper but has there been a mistake or maybe I have not read the rules properly but James Hitchen in M4 finished 4th but has 0 points on the sheet?

In my Gpro world he finished 11th

Sorry I had a senior moment and had the grid positions up not the finish positions, hence I corrected myself prior to your post :)

My bad, I forgot to update my sidepods but only realised after testing. Cost us the match point and probably my chances at promo. :(((

But if all goes to plan I should make up for this dip. ;)

England equalises final; Argentina wins bronze

https://worldcup.cani-malati.com/index.php?area=results

If the first race of the final was a tight affair, the second race has made it even tighter. The German team displayed its consistency yet again, with 7 managers delivering decent points. But this time around, the English stars did manage to do just enough to secure the point - England 23.0, Germany 21.2.

The score is now 1-1, so all will be decided in the final race.

In the match for third place, it was also a close call. France scored 21 points but was narrowly beaten by Argentina's 22. This means the match stands at 2-0 and Argentina has clinched the bronze medal. Congratulations!

Looking for new countries for next season

The first World Cup is almost over, which means the 2nd edition is already on the horizon. Team Captains from Season 1 will keep their position for one more season.

However, I am still looking for a few key countries to enter the competition:

Brazil
Greece
Italy
Russia
Bulgaria
Romania
...

If your country did not take part in this season's World Cup (see the Results page linked in the previous post) and you would like to change that, please let me know as soon as possible!

GERMANY WIN FIRST GPRO WORLD CUP

https://worldcup.cani-malati.com/index.php?area=results&season=71

...and in the end, the Germans win!

The inaugural edition of the GPRO World Cup has come to a close tonight. The rain at Yas Marina, combined with the fact that the season is over and some managers are limping home in worn cars, has perhaps had an impact on the final match between Germany and England, which ended with relatively low scores.

The German team have won it though, and by a significant margin: 22.6 - 12.6. This seals the match at Germany 2, England 1.

Congratulations Germany, you are the best GPRO nation of Season 71!

Well done to the captain of the German team, Jan Velske.

Let's congratulate the Mannschaft that can call itself World Champions:

Felix Horch - Most Valuable Player at 64.2 points
Klaus Niester
Chris Heidrich
Thomas Geißler
Christian Bernhard
Andreas Haendel
Lisa Peterson
Alexander Hoppe
Andreas Engelhardt
Joachim Rang
Mike Roell

Congratulations also to our runners-up England, led by captain Jonathan Beagles.

England tops the league table and can rightly call itself the most consistently performing country of the season, but unfortunately it was just not good enough to win the Cup in the final three races. I'm sure the English will be back for revenge.

This season's top scoring player was - who else? - our Elite champion, Roland Postle, who was in the English line-up throughout the season and therefore contributed his full 124 points to the team. Well played, Sir!

Arguably one of the best additions to GPRO!

But you should make sure the Germans can never win WC somehow ;) Nevertheless congratualtions to our eastern neighbours! Don't let it happen again!

Can we fire our team captains in between seasons, or do we have to let his contract run out?

I would release a Team Captain from their duties by their own request, or if they were really inactive and have barely selected a team. I don't think there was a problem with the American captain this season?

Thanks a lot Jasper for hosting the Gpro world cup!

I would have never expected Germany to have a chance even getting past Argentinia in the quarters as the 11th best country in terms of manager material ( /gb/Stats.asp?type=natpoints#scroll ) but all members put together a great team efford throughout the world cup, so I am very proud on the team and hopefully see you next season!

Also congrats to England for taking it to the final race!

@Jasper Coosemans (E) May I know if it is possible to merge China and Hong Kong to one country, since we don't have much managers.

It will be great the new team to race under the name of China. If not, then please advise what we should do to make the merger.

Thanks, Jasper!
