Quote ( Mark Wright @ June 29th 2014,00:10:42 ) That was 1950 wasn't it!
Uruguayans came to this Cup with the idea of causing another Maracanazo like in 1950! The ghost was exorcised.

Like 1986 where there was attempted murder on 11 Scottish players. Amen.

I did
Interesting game for tomorrow and I'm surprised most people on the guess the score topic seem to put a 2 goal advantage on Netherlands tomorrow.
If Netherlands is going to score it should be early in the game.
Mexico has 2 more players in the field, humidity and temperature, and they will begin playing after 60 minutes of game.
Netherlands has a very good team, ranked #1 after group phase, yet the tropical weather can hurt them, it is a pity there are no stadiums in this tournament above 2,000 meters because that would be a greater advantage for Mexico.
Netherlands will have a definite advantage in the first 30 minutes with probably a balanced game in the second 30 minutes and a slight advantage for Mexico in the final 30, specially if Mexico plays as offensive as they can in the first third forcing the "Oranje" to run.
I still believe Mexico is the underdog, but wise play from them could make a surpirse

So, Uruguay... Now... Where's your 2 World Cups, your 2 gold medals at the Olympic games, your 15 American Cups, your 8 Libertadores cups, your 6 Intercontinental cups?

Quote ( Mark Wright @ June 29th 2014,00:59:41 ) Probably a Scouser ;) You wouldn't find one of them at an England match.
Although you apparently find scotch people wearing England jerseys ^^

You need lessons in English. Not from a Scouser but someone who knows PROPER English!

Even though I should be happy about the outcome of today's game, I just feel relieved that Brazil managed [barely] to limp through to the next round. Colombia played a higher level of football quality and it's perfectly understandable that Brazilians will be the only ones supporting Brazil on Friday. On top of that, the booing of the Chilean anthem in the beginning of the game was shamefully disrespectful. :(
My head tells me that Colombia should win the game and have their Cameroon-1990 moment, but I just can't help it. In any other sport I could succumb to reasoning and root for the underdog, but we're talking about football and my heart prevails. Should Colombia win the match on Friday, I'll be rooting for them to win the big prize. For now, I'm still hopeful to see a Brazilian team deserving of the title.

Sooooooooooooooo happy!!!!!!!!!
Colombia has made a mark on the WC. The team has nothing to lose and nothing to fear.
If we lose against Brazil, Colombia can leave with their heads up high knowing they had a great run.
If we dont lose...............

COLOMBIA! I chose the right team to support..great game, great James, great Cuadrado, great Ospina! :D
They surely deserve more to win than Brazil.
Then again I have Brazil in the sweepstake. :P

wow so much hate there's an old saying here - all your bad wishes come back to you twice as hard. Brazil loves you all - ask Jimmy about his experience here.
Colombia had a nice performance today - if they do it again Brazil might lose.

very controversial Michael
Quote ( Michael Winkley @ June 29th 2014,08:13:41 ) best team Don't think so. Brasil, Germany, Belgium etc.
Quote ( Michael Winkley @ June 29th 2014,08:13:41 ) best goal Van Persie
Quote ( Michael Winkley @ June 29th 2014,08:13:41 ) best player a lot of bidders, time will tell
Quote ( Michael Winkley @ June 29th 2014,08:13:41 ) best consistency maybe

Quote ( Maxim Egorov @ June 29th 2014,08:20:25 ) Don't think so. Brasil, Germany, Belgium etc. Brazil`s level of play was nowhere near Columbia`s. You could argue about Germany, but they were pretty poor against Ghana. And Belgium...didn`t live up to the hype yet.
Quote ( Maxim Egorov @ June 29th 2014,08:20:25 ) Quote ( Michael Winkley @ June 29th 2014,08:13:41 ) best goal Van Persie I`d say Cahill`s was the best goal.
Also agree with Winkley on best player (James Rodriguez) and best consistency.

I also rated Jermaine Jones' equaliser against Portugal; it was the one goal that genuinely had me jumping out of my seat. It was certainly better than Messi's similar sort of goal from a few days earlier. RVP's header was class, but not really my cup of tea. Cahill's volley was your typical RVP style volley; technically perfect. The other quality volley was the second Swiss goal against France.
