In a game about AI cars doing what you (usually don't) want, it's great to see a wave of positive reactions like this. :)

The season recap is in the works, lots of spoilers inbound.

For only the second time, the season finale was held in Monza. And for the second time in a row, the same winner and the same champion. For the fifth and final time, the Ecurie France engines dominated the field, Whitehead and Farina drove the fastest cars with 96 points, de Graffenried only had an 91, but with the point advantage he was also considered to be a championship contender behind Alberto Ascari and Bob Gerard. The 1954 champion was the first to be eliminated from contention, and Ascari ended his title campaign on 25 points after neither of them were able to qualify for the race. Bill Vukovich, the only double winner of the season lost his chance of a fairytale FGen title and ended with 22 points, same as de Graffenried, another big name out in the Heats. This has left three people with the chance of winning the 1956 title, Ascari was in the lead but Farina and Whitehead were in control - the three-time champ only needed a third place to win his fourth title. But by the time the paddock acknowledged the legend may finish his comeback and be on top again - Whitehead lost in the Quarterfinals. Bryan also lost but Mantovani and Farina got through, meaning Ecurie France became the favorites for the Constructors' title. Also in the Semi-Finals were the two Gordinis, Freeland from Kurtis Kraft and Louis Rosier, who ended his career in that round. The 51-year-old. who ended his career with two wins and 97 career points, will be featured one final time as his career is recapped some time in the off-season. Farina won his Semi-Final ahead of Freeland, while Behra and Simon followed them from the other half. The Italian needed a win and a win only to take the 1956 title, Behra was coming back after his win here last year, Simon wanted to salvage a good result for himself and Gordini, while Don Freeland was enjoying the final part of his rookie season. In the end, both 1954 and 1955 called again: 1954 because Farina lost the title from a commanding position and 1955 because Jean Behra won from pole, handing the title to Alberto Ascari! Freeland finished second ahead of Simon and Farina.

This all means Alberto Ascari from Maserati wins the 1956 season of Formula Generally, with 25 points. This is the first time the champion fails to win a single race. For the third time in a row, exactly 25 points were the winning amount and also for the first time, countback decides the winner. Both Ascari and second placed Bob Gerard ended with 25 points, no wins but Ascari finished second one more time (2-1) than the Englishman and this was the crucial tiebreaker. In seven seasons, Ascari is the second double winner and second back-to-back winner after Peter Whitehead (1950, 1951, 1953). A trio of 22-pointers followed them, Bill Vukovich ends with a brilliant third place in the championship, ahead of two Ecurie France drivers. Emmanuel de Graffenried is back in the Top 10 after 1951, Farina finishes in the Top 5 for the fifth time, solidifying his legacy as the best driver never to win a FGen title. He turns 51 next year and whether that year will be his last one is still unknown. A Peter Whitehead comeback sees him finish 6th but was it really a comeback? He finishes two points and two places better than last year, this time with his eight win. Two BRMs surround Don Freeland, the best rookie of the year, just like in 1953, two BRMs end up in the single digits. André Simon rounds off the Top 10, just like last year, the Frenchman has finished 2nd, 10th and 16th 2-2-2 times since his debut in 1951.

It looked like Dorino Serafini could lead Alfa Romeo back to glory but he was outshadowed by Gerard and the Italian finished 11th. Ron Flockhard lost a highly contested duel for the Étancelin Trophy but unlike Freeland, he is a race winner. Jimmy Bryan adds two other finals to his tally, he is at seven now and still without a win. Cesare Perdisa outperformed his teammate Musso by 15 places to finish 14th, Reg Parnell finishes 15th in what was a true rebuilding season for him and Cisitalia. Jean Behra wins the final race again to end up with 16 points again and to finish 16th again... Robert Manzon may be happy to be back full-time but it hasn't always looked like a Top 20 finish. In the end, he finished only three points behind a subpar Simon so his future might be safe. Fangio's 19th place is the second lowest an Alta driver has ever finished a season but a 5-point streak may be a little upside for the Argentine. Sergio Mantovani finishes 20th, too much pressure may have caused his season to fall apart after finishing 5th last year.

Tony Bettenhausen finishes 21st due to his 5-race streak and three Semi-Finals, Stirling Moss only made it to one Semi but he won that American GP. The season went about the same way for Rudi Fischer, with one more Quarterfinal but just a second place. Two Semi-Finals and a 24th place from Eric Thompson is actually not that bad, Louis Rosier will not end his career on the highest of highs, just a 25th place. P26 in an Alfa Romeo means a totally understandable termination for Theo Helfrich, ahead of a consistent Duane Carter and Ken Wharton, winner of the Ecurie Belge team battle. Manny Ayulo was left behind by his management but not making it to a single Semi-Final is coincidental. Both Mercedes' finish 33rd-34th and the team with the smallest budget should be able to build on this. Jimmy Davies provides the team's only Semi-Final, clear winner of ERA by four points. Troy Ruttman scores six in a row, Eugenio Castellotti and Carlos Menditeguy score six times to finish 36th-37th-38th. Mike Hawthorn will use his streak to build himself up, Jo Bonnier finishes as a total rookie is expected - a shaky season sees him end up 40th. Umberto Maglioli beats his teammate by three points, Johnny Claes finishes five places ahead than last year when he was an independent, Jack Brabham's season fell apart just like his team's, Jim Rathmann will have plenty to think about after ending up with six points again. Piero Taruffi couldn't find a winning moment, José Froilán González is fired from CSI, Hermano da Silva Ramos is the only driver who couldn't score points two races in a row, John Crouch is gone from ERA unlike Piotti, this year's 49th and last finisher out of the full-season drivers.

The second official Constructors' Championship went down to the wire among four competitive 3-man teams. First Half played Second Half and despite a very cheap first race, a team with Ecurie France engines triumphed - fittingly it was the works team! 60 points won Ecurie France their first Constructors' Title, compared to Alta's 61 last year (earned in 9 races). The Frenchmen won by three points ahead off a very consistent BRM, who were definitely punching above their weight. Alfa Romeo finished third, just 5 behind the winners - oh what could have been without Helfrich. Alta finished fourth, definitely outplayed by some, but with 54 points, including one win, and most importantly a resurgent Peter Whitehead, the black menace will be back for the title next year. After an 11-point void, Talbot-Lago comes next, the two-faced team with two consecutive wins and only three other Semi-Finals. The winner of the first half was Cisitalia but they left nothing for the second period and they slipped down to sixth. Still, great comeback after last year's 18th(!) place. Maserati will be happy with an average of 19 points per driver, 7th place is almost irrelevant for Ascari's team. Gordini lacked wins but two late podiums put them back to P8. Ecurie Belge just edges Lancia but the former had three drivers to manage. Enrico Platé beats Bugatti by a point, CSI's late win only puts them at 13th. ERA is down in 14th with three drivers, one point ahead of Mercedes. Ferrari drops nine places from 1955 to finish 16th, ahead of Cooper and last of the line Vanwall.

Five team-driver combos were eligible for the second Étancelin Trophy and each of the five had a different story. Jack Brabham was the early leader but his team Veritas stopped funding halfway through the season, plummeting Brabham down to 5th. Consistency but no Semi-Finals meant Carlos Menditeguy finished 4th. Manny Ayulo in the Milano was no doubt the strongest but their season turned out to be a complete disaster. Don Freeland got off to a good start with two cheap points but Ron Flockhart got the lead thanks to a win in Monaco. But with a late surge, Freeland's two podiums meant the American won the Étancelin cup.

Numbers!!! This is not magic but they still aren't explained too well for now. If you have any questions or doubts, ask away. All the calculations can be found in the Progress page.

Whichever team's engine ranks best in 1956, can see everyone's EP allocation before they announce their own. Same goes for second place but they cannot see the first place's new engine allocation. In case the top 2 engine manufacturers choose not to develop an engine in 1957, the privilege goes on to the next best engine of 1956.

Next up is the Confirmation for the 1957 season.

1. do you wish to play another season of the game?
those, who already confirmed at least one part of their squad, will not be asked about this.

2. do you keep your team or leave everything behind?
you can take over a currently unmanaged team (OSCA, Aston-Butterworth, AFM, Porsche, Centro Sud) but you will start with 25 CP and none of your previous drivers. Alternatively, you can predict that Milano and Veritas will be umnanaged as well. In any case, select a team and place a bid on it. You only get one chance to change teams.

3. keep or fire your drivers, select a tire brand

4. how many drivers would you like to have? (you need 3 to create an engine later)
The difference between the number of '56 and '57 drivers can be 0 or 1. In other words, you cannot have 1 driver after having 3 in 1956 or vice versa.

Deadline for confirmation is 23rd April 22:00. If don't confirm your time, you lose your team (you can of course rejoin later if you want to).

PMs to be sent soon.

When I announced some of the new rules for 1957, this was one of them:

Quote ( Bálint Turi-Kováts @ March 26th 2019,18:24:48 )

- Teams will have three ways of earning CPs (or gaining Budget) after their finishing position (average points scored per driver)
1. Finishing position (favoring good results)
2. Finishing position compared to last year (favoring big comebacks)
3. Finishing position compared to Budget (NEW, favoring smaller teams in order to get back into the fight)

The numbers are finalized and can be seen in the Progress section of the new sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-Ibrs7dwRrtBzED5x-iZ...

It hasn't been easier to calculate but here are some examples:

Money for position: your team's place in the list of every team ranked by average points scored. (You want this to be low)
Money for delta: your team's 1955 position - 1956 position. (You want this to be positive, that means overachievement)
Money for budget: your team's place in the list of every team ranked by their budget - 1956 position (You want this to be positive, that means overachievement)

A constructor finished 9th in 1956, they finish 8th of 18 in 1957. Their budget is the 4th highest.
They get 5,4 for position, 0,3 for delta, -2,8 for budget, for a total of 2,9 CP.

A constructor finished 17th in 1956, they finish 12th of 19 in 1957. Their budget is the 19th highest.
They get 4.5 for position, 1.5 for delta, 4.2 for budget, for a total of 10.2 CP.

If these rules were present in 1956, the teams would have had very different Budget (CP) gains/losses:
- BRM would have gained 12.1 CP (instead of 5), Ecurie France +11.7 (instead of 6)
- 5 or more CP gained: Maserati (9.2), Lancia (9), Bugatti (7.5), Cisitalia (7.4), Mercedes (6.7), Talbot-Lago (5) from the constructors and two privateers: Connaught (5.8) and Kurtis Kraft (5)
- only Cooper (-1) and Ferrari (-1.9) would have lost CP.

So what is this? Will everyone have 100 CP in 5 years? Not quite. You all gain more so that you can spend more, starting from 1958. Enhanced engines and Salaries will make sure you spend more CPs starting in the 1958 pre-season. Those numbers aren't finalized yet but here is what's to come:
- An average driver should be worth 1.5CP per year
- The top drivers should be worth 4-5CP per year
- An engine will cost at least 1 CP, but it will be the developer's duty to set fair prices. From 1958, customers' money will directly go to developers' budget.

And there is one final CP-earning opportunity for 1957 I haven't talked about...

Six teams are yet to confirm their 1957 appearance. I'll be lenient, if they miss the deadline, they won't forfeit their teams if they have been active last season. (So we will only lose Veritas probably in case of no unjoins). Deadline is Tuesday 22:00.
