I like more 2008 cars. But I didn't see anything bad in this time. 2009 cars were awful, 2021 doesn't looks bad

Doesnt matter what the car looks like if it doesnt say what it says itll do, and if it does, maybe the sport isnt dead after all
Still needs refuelling however

Just waiting on Ferrari to veto.
I can't believe they still have too much power overall.

When they make technical regulations based on a need for cars to "look futuristic" (which they started doing a few years ago with those ludicrous swept wings), then you know there is a thorough identity crisis going on. F1 cars don't have to look futuristic, they have to look like cars that were designed to go as fast as possible around a race track.
Ranting aside, if it delivers on easier close racing then that is a massive step forward. But I am most excited about the fact they agreed a cost cap. $175 million is still a little high but if they keep this number fixed (i.e. don't correct for inflation) then it's effectively going to require a small budget cut every year. Over time it will really lead to fair competition between teams, I think.

Pretty sure we all know what the cars will do for 2021: driving! :')

Quote ( Shannon Fuerte @ October 31st 2019,18:40:47 ) FIA just released 2021 regs, what do you guys think? Haven't read through the regulations yet, but on images the underfloor tunnels looks huge. Like the removal of some winglets, other aero gadgets, and the cleaner surfaces. Happy that the MGU-H survived. 18-inch wheels are probably a plus.

I know you can be more on the technical side of things given your education... Besides they're designed for close(r) racing, what about DRS? Will that articficial overtaking be gone in 2021? Didn't find it when I quickly had a look..

Perhaps DRS was left in in case the desired closer racing doesn't materialize. If the cars work as advertised then hopefully they'll get rid of the DRS abomination.

Yes, I think they hinted at exactly that. I think announcing the removal of DRS today would be hubris and could blow up in their face when the time comes. If DRS becomes unnecessary they will get rid of it. But only when they are sure and not a day sooner.

I firmly believe F1 rules should only have minimum requirements and not maximum requirements. Meaning wheelbase, width and weight etc should be a minumum and safety and the rest should be left to the teams to create the fastest car.

Quote ( Jaco Van Zyl @ November 1st 2019,18:57:11 ) safety should be left to the teams to create the fastest car. You want back to the 70s with 5 drivers killed every year?

If you want 20 guys going for the championship give them all VW Up's
If you want the pinnacle of Motorsport you need them to develop new technology and not restrict it.

In this age of F1, maximum requirements is a must to keep the field competitive. There would be a much, much larger gap between Ferrari/Mercedes and the rest of the field if there were no caps on certain things.
But yeah for a lot of things the cars should be designed to be the fastest cars on the planet. LMP1 cars might start to make them look silly.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for having as much technical freedom as possible, combined with a budget cap. This is the ultimate engineering challenge, so I would love that. But the idea that we should let the teams make their cars as unsafe as they want, is literally outdated by 50 years, sorry.

As i stated safety as minimum requirement as well. I also believe that is the first priority
