Is Cooper's career over?
Cooper team principal Joshua Anderson was in somewhat of a state of shock today, as he took to the stage for a press conference in which the Brit, seemingly in shock and pale-faced, uttered only the following words:
"As of today, I am no longer an employee of Nabisco Cooper Cars."
It is not known why this is, but rumours are circulating that Jim Rathmann's motivation was severely diminished after a 1961 season that saw him utterly thrashed by his teammate Jean Behra, who was unavailable for comment on the matter. It is thought Rathmann's salary was already paid for 1961, and that a decision by Rathmann not to compete for Cooper in 1961, and Anderson's subsequent attempts to remedy the team's now-dire financial situation with the Cooper board, led to his dismissal.
Rumours have also circulated that Anderson and Behra were seen in a cafe in France, discussing their possible future options...

Lancia manager, drivers spotted at Indy
Following a disappointing 2nd place in the Éntacelin Trophy, Lancia manager Shannon Fuerte was seen contacting Maggs and Lederle after the US GP at Watkins Glen, allegedly saying “C’mon boys, we have a boat to catch.” This was followed by the arrival of Alta’s celebrations, in which the trio disappeared from the track.
A few weeks later, people nearby Indianapolis speedway noticed a small caravan of cars entering the speedway. One bystander even noted a large briefcase handed over to the owners, before the caravan was let in.
This was followed by 2 weeks of almost non-stop motoring noise, to which there were many sound complaints and threats towards the speedway. However, one by one, each complaint went away, and the surrounding neighborhood seemed to have new accommodations such as new coats of paint or a new fence.
Whatever the case was for the disappearance of all the complaints, the huge story in Indianapolis that summer was the record rainfall which coincided with the caravan’s arrival. Then, at the start of the second week, a small car pulled up to the speedway. The driver was waved in, presumably to join the chaos.
Only on the final day were people allowed to peek in and see what was happening. To most, it looked like a private get-together with some above average drivers, and they quickly lost interest. However, one keen observer noted two bright pink liveries, and a gray, slightly rusty one. As the worst storm of the week rolled in, people all left the stands. Of the few that stayed behind, (for they were true motorheads) they did not believe what they saw.
All three cars, were still out on track, in a near record storm for the area, all in unison, with race craft, overtaking, and lines all nailed to perfection. Soon, as the cars pulled into the pits, there were cheers from one solitary, drenched, but elated man yelling, “We got it! We finally got it!”
The next day, the caravan was reported to be seen leaving Indianapolis speedway.

A driver's Talent changed in relation to:
- the amount of wins, podiums, Qualifying wins, Track Records they scored,
- the longest consecutive point streak they scored,
- their final championship position,
- their Age (they lost 1 Talent if they turned 48 in the new year),
- their Motivation (if they dipped below a 20 or 10),
- their NC-race participation.
A driver's Wet skill changed in relation to their NC-race participation (but there were no wet NC-races).
A driver's motivation changed in relation to the amount of positions they won/lost between the last two years.
Driver Experience is updated.
Driver Salary is updated.
Independents, drivers without a contract gained/lost 0-3 Talent between seasons. Their Motivation stays the same.
All major CP changes can be found below. CP can be gained or lost for position, rank related to last year, and rank related to their budget. Those who failed their sponsor goal are also penalized. Non-Championship results are also included.

Mercedes' manager spotted at Stuttgart headquarters
Rumour says that Mercedes are quite pleased with 4th year in a row improving their position in the championship, but are thinking about the ultimate step in 1962. Is it going to be enough? Sebastian Jóźwiak, team principal reportedly asked for a whole lot of money from the bosses to build even a greater car to allow them to fight for the championship for long-served, doubted sometimes, but recently showing off greatly Eric Brandon. Supposedly Mercedes discarded this and said that 'we can win without spending additional bunch of money' bringing Jóźwiak's hopes to an end for 1962.

CSI Escape to Hidden Training Camp in Alps
Normally, CSI would be spending their off-season at their garage in Italy, rarely venturing far beyond that. But this season, its very different. Last season saw CSI get a measly 18 points, their lowest in the past 7 seasons. For all the promise that Lorenzo Bandini was supposed to bring, his debut season would be remembered by CSI fans as one of being shoved aside by other cars time and time again. Team principal Kai Wen Chew hence have managed to persuade the CSI management to allow them to train this off season somewhere in the Alps, away from public eye. Who knows what is going on there, and who knows if it will pay off, but CSI need to improve soon, and quickly.

Developments of the off-season:
- Everyone was refunded 1.5c for every "expensive" driver contract made, just this one time.
- @Josh Anderson (A46) did take Salvadori, advertised by Shannon and Constantin, so his salary is paid by the Lancia manager!
This was a first come, first serve move, which I didn't explain well enough but for next year I'll promise to re-order how drivers are hired.
- It's currently looking like there will be 19 Constructors and 3 Privateers in 1962. But as a reminder, you can still hire, fire, replace drivers whenever you like.
The new thread will be up later, not sure yet if tonight or tomorrow.
