GPRO Baltic Cup is back for the 13th season!

Nominated for Season 77 Oscars as the Best Silly Game.

HOW IT WORKS (game concept and first 6 seasons hosted by Martynas Bražėnas):
It will run on a similar principle as cup competitions in all groups.
After R2, the top 32 managers by team points from all 3 countries (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia) are combined into a seeded cup competition (seeds will be identical to the Elite group cup for fairness).
And after each race forward, the manager who scores more team points wins in their individual matchup.

This season we have 45 Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians in Pro and above.

Sagatas promised after last season that this season would mark his 7th Baltic Cup title, and his race 1 result indeed puts him at the top. It remains to be seen however if he can keep this form up for the rest of the season. Behind him is a fairly big gap so competition for all the other places is much more heated. After Race 1 we have 3 Elites, 2 managers from Pro 1, Pro 7 and Amateur 38 in the top 32. The group with the most Baltic managers this season is Pro 5, with 3 Lithuanians, 1 Latvian and 1 Estonian but only one of them (Selmistraitis) is currently in a good position to qualify.

6-time Baltic Cup champion Sagatas is on top again, qualifying with an amazing score. The rest of qualifying is characterized by a consistently strong field, however, which is reflected by one of the lowest concentrations of Amateurs in the team point era. There are a bunch of groups with 2 or more managers in this season's Cup, including some groups where both are contending for promotion. The groups with multiple representatives are: Elite (3), Pro 1 (2), Pro 4 (2), Pro 7 (2) and Pro 21 (2).

One of the interesting contenders is Zariņš (#31) from Pro 21 who got an abysmal 27th place in the first race but won the 2nd, allowing him to qualify for the Cup via tiebreaker. Kalpokas (#3) showed a strong performance in qualifying, being capable of matching the Elite trio and bringing some help to Sagatas who has had to bear the weight of his nation on several occasions. Once again, both Irmantas and Edmundas Urbonas qualify for the Cup, the Amateur above the Master though. And Kaspar is carrying the Paukson family's name to battle this season as well. The top 8 seeds are split fairly evenly between the 3 nations, the next 8 spots are dominated by Estonians and the bottom half is dominated by Lithuanians.

Overall, we see a decrease in the amount of Lithuanian qualifiers while Estonia and Latvia seem to be in fairly good positions. As stated earlier, there aren't too many Amateurs this time, as we have a healthy amount of Elites, Masters and Pros. Tyres-wise we see a lot of Pipirellis and Yokos as usual, but also a decent amount of Hancocks and Badyears.

With a more-than-usual amount of lower seeds taken up by Pro and Master managers we see some interesting matchups forming. Some of them to keep your eye on: Arnisgd (#23) vs Gerassimtsik (#13), Selmistraitis (#12) vs Praudins (#8), Zukauskas (#5) vs Kell (#10), E. Urbonas (#27) vs Peikstenis (#24), Raamann (#15) vs Grundmanis (#14), Stankevičius (#22) vs I. Urbonas (#19), Vaškys (#21) vs Kuodys (#32), Svidras (#28) vs Černiauskas (#18). The #2 and #3 seeds Urtāns and Kalpokas could also meet some strong resistance from Zariņš (#31) and Toom (#30) respectively.

The Baltic Cup knockout rounds have finally begun! As is often the case, each half of the table has a bit of a unique look. For the first race it mostly meant that the "top" or "left" half had a lot of managers struggling and low-scoring matches, while the other half had stronger performances on average. The left half only has 2 matches where compatriots face each other while the right half has 5 such matches.

In the first half, only 4 managers broke the 4 point barrier. Defending champion Sagatas (#1) was struggling but managed to still beat Pranskevičius. Paukson (#29) managed to get an upset over Karalius (#9) who had an unfortunate tyre puncture. Gerassimtsik (#13) was one of the few good performers on this half and was rewarded with a point. Praudins (#8) and Vitolins (#4) were upset by Selmistraitis (#12) and Jasnauskas (#20) in close contests and are now on the back foot. Zukauskas (#5) beats last season's finalist Kell (#10) and last season's 3rd place finishes E. Urbonas (#27) loses to Peikstenis (#24) in low scoring matches. Last season's semi-finalists have had a rough start to the campaign. Grundmanis (#14) beats Raamann (#15) in a fairly close leg, as the seeding would suggest.

There were only 2 one-sided duels on the second half of the table. Kalpokas (#3) shows dominance against Toom (#30) and Sirel (#11) beats Zvaigzne (#26). Zvaigznitis (#17) and Liit (#16) both win their respective races but are unfortunate enough to face Tammel (#6), who got the highest score out of anyone this race, and Müür (#7). The 3 All-Lithuanian matches were settled by a 0.27 point difference each. Stankevičius (#22) and Černiauskas (#18) both win their races and are awarded with a point each against I. Urbonas (#19) and Svidras (#28) respectively while Vaškys' (#21) 2nd place finish is enough to grab the lead against Kuodys (#32). Urtāns (#2) was struggling like the other Elites in the competition, but is able to beat his compatriot Zariņš (#31) with the lowest winning score of this bracket half.

Sagatas (#1) delivers the joint-best result of the race despite having the worst possible weather. While he's not quite as unbeatable as last season, he still managed to get through the 1st round with ease. His opponent will be Paukson (#29) who manages to beat Karalius (#9) by a mere 0,2 points to advance, and is the only Estonian from this half to do so. Gerassimtsik (#13) will be left wondering what happened as his good start to the round dropped off quickly against an increasingly more confident Arnisgd (#23). Selmistraitis (#12) disposes of Season 11 champion Praudins (#8) with ease. Zukauskas (#5) continues the good fortunes of Lithuanians by destroying a struggling Kell (#10) in a match that was promising to be much closer. Peikstenis (#24) beats E. Urbonas (#27) with one of the smallest scores in Baltic Cup history. Raamann (#15) gets a consolation point against Grundmanis (#14) who is the only Latvian to advance from this half of the table, as Vitolins (#4) is not able to overcome the weather and bows out against Jasnauskas (#20).

In the right half of the table we have another extremely low-scoring leg as Toom (#30) gets a point against Kalpokas (#3) but it's too late to change the outcome. Neither Urbonas is able to advance to the 2nd round as Irmantas (#19) loses to Stankevičius (#22) in a really close match despite winning the last leg. Sirel (#11) is the manager who equalled Sagatas' score this round, comfortably advancing him to the next round against another Latvian from Amateur, Zvaigznitis (#17), whose last name starts with the same 6 letters as his previous opponent! Zvaigznitis' opponent Tammel (#6) will be furious though, as his race 4 was ruined by a start accident and race 5 by a tyre puncture. Tammel's groupmate Zariņš (#31) must be mad at himself though, as technical problems and 17 pit stops prevented him from beating Urtāns (#2) who somehow got through with subpar results. Müür (#7) seals the 3-0 score against his compatriot Liit (#16) in another low-scoring race while Vaškys (#21) does the same against Kuodys (#32). Svidras (#28) gets a point on the board but Černiauskas had already secured his spot in the 2nd round.

Disaster for both Estonia and Latvia! The numbers of qualifiers indicated that Lithuania might be in trouble this season but instead they managed to make the most of their slightly reduced manager count while Estonia and Latvia lost a lot of managers in the 1st round. Group-wise it seems that Master seems to be a difficult level to play at if you want to succeed in the Baltic Cup as only 1 out of 4 managers goes through. We did have half of the Pros eliminated as well though, as the low scores in many matches skewed the odds in favour of the Amateurs. With regards to tyres we still have some nice variety but Yokos took a big hit this round.

Not so true!
EE and LT lost 6 managers, while LV just 4 managers.

In next round we will say bb to at least 3 LT managers while rest in unknown

I'm looking at relative losses, not absolute losses. :)

Lithuanians lost 6/16 managers so 37,5%. Latvians lost 4/7, so around 57%. Estonians lost 6/9, so 66,7%.

Looks like I'm gonna need to rig a lot harder, as Sagatas (#1) easily disposes of Paukson (#29) in the 1st leg. Zukauskas (#5) and Jasnauskas (#20) grab convincing wins as well, but Arnisgd (#23) managed to take Selmistraitis (#12) to the tiebreaker, but the higher-ranked Lithuanian was faster and thus gained a point.

Kalpokas (#3) and Urtāns (#2) managed to recover from their shockingly poor rounds in race 5 to grab comfortable leads against their opponents. The other matches of the half were a bit more tense though, as Sirel (#11) beats Zvaigznitis (#17) by 1.2 points and Müür (#7) wins with the same gap against Vaškys (#21).

Sagatas (#1) is too strong for Paukson (#29). Arnisgd (#23) manages to bounce back from his tiebreak loss and takes Selmistraitis (#12) to the deciding leg. Peikstenis (#24) outdoes Arnisgd by coming back from a 38th place retirement to win his race and put pressure on Zukauskas (#5). Grundmanis (#14) is all over the place, resulting in his early exit against a consistent Jasnauskas (#20).

Kalpokas (#3) and Stankevičius (#22) repeat their previous scoreline perfectly, meaning that the only remaining Master manager is through. Sirel (#11) beats the second Latvian whose last name starts with Zvaigzn, this time the victim was Zvaigznitis (#17). Müür (#7) performed similarly to the other Estonian Karl and disposed of Vaškys (#21). Perhaps the biggest surprise is that #2-seed Urtāns still can't find his rhythm half way into the season and has to give it his all to not face the embarrassment of losing to a well-performing Amateur manager, and most importantly, Lithuanian, Černiauskas (#18).

Sagatas (#1) is hitting his stride, and will go against Selmistraitis (#12) who managed to come back from a disastrous race to grab a close win. Peikstenis (#24) gets hit by some terrible luck again, getting a tyre puncture. Zukauskas (#5) goes through with another strong performance. The All-Lithuanian half of the Quarter-Finals is completed by the only remaining Amateur manager in Jasnauskas (#20).

Kalpokas (#3) throws the last race of the round but is still through. He will face Sirel (#11) who advanced fairly effortlessly. Müür (#7), Zukauskas' groupmate and Sirel's compatriot is on good form but he will be up against Urtāns (#2) who has struggled with consistency so far this season.

Lithuania has had enough. Sagatas seems to actually have some competent support this season. Meanwhile, Latvia's hopes are all on Urtāns. Estonia might have 2 managers left but both will be facing tough battles against managers from higher tiers than them. Not much interesting in the tier/tyre composition, except for the staggeringly big number of Yokos who are out of the running. The Baltics sure seem to love expensive tyres.

It's a very familiar result for Sagatas... Will he ever get bored of winning? Meanwhile Jasnauskas' dream of Semi-Finals has become very very difficult now with Zukauskas' consistency.

Kalpokas is still as inconsistent as ever and Sirel manages to grab the lead. Urtāns is also struggling once more. Can he turn his fortunes around to keep Latvia's hopes of a podium alive?

Sagatas is through to the Semi-Finals, as usual. Selmistaraitis put up a brave fight but no matter what he did, it wasn't gonna be enough against the Baltic Cup legend. The other All-Lithuanian match has found a winner as well, with Zukauskas doing enough to hold off Jasnauskas.

Kalpokas manages to take his match to the deciding leg, by winning against Sirel with a tiny margin of 0,07 points! If he manages to seal the comeback then we might only have 1 non-Lithuanian in the Semis. What we can say for certain though, is that there will be no Latvians in the top 4 for only the 3rd time in Baltic Cup history! Urtāns is just completely out of gas, while Müür asks no questions and punches his ticket.

Sagatas shows that even he is human, as the rain ruins his perfect record across this season. With the next race favouring his tyre choice, it will be really difficult for Zukauskas, who will be hoping for rain in races 13 and 14.

On the other side Kalpokas lays a goose egg as the rain ruined his plans of possibly competing in the Semi-Finals, confirming an All-Estonian line-up for the second Semi-Final. Müür had a disastrous race, just like Kalpokas, which ruined his perfect record across the season. Thus, Urtāns grabs a point to make all his matches this season end with a 2-1 scoreline.

The loser in 3 Quarter-Finals was Lithuanian, yet they still have 2 managers pushing on, while Latvia won't even have a chance to fight for medals this time. Pro 1 still has 2 managers in the running, and while both have difficult tasks ahead of them, there is still a small chance both of them would be deciding the fate of the title, in the same race, on the same track.

Zukauskas is the unlucky one this round, as he outscores both Estonians on the other half of the table but Sagatas still demolishes him. Meanwhile Müür beats Sirel, decreasing the likelyhood of a Pro-1 duel in either the Final or 3rd place match.

Sagatas' 8th appearance in the Final is confirmed now. This time Zukauskas can't be mad though, as he would have lost regardless of whom he was up against this time. Meanwhile Sirel must be really disappointed to lose to Müür with such a small margin. This also means that we won't have a Pro-1 only match up in the medal matches.

Both finalists ease off a bit before the most important races of the season. Zukauskas and Sirel will be heading to the 3rd place matches off of good form and a point from their Semi-Finals. Meanwhile the weather is basically offering Sagatas an early lead in the Final. There will also be the added dynamic of Müür and Zukauskas racing in the same group, taking points off of each other which could end up deciding a match for one of them.

Picture below to avoid spoilers.

Sagatas does enough to grab the lead. However, Müür's 2nd place finish did attempt the battle for 3rd place, as it pushed Zukauskas to 3rd place in his group and a tiebreak against Sirel which the Estonian won! There's still all to play for, though, especially in the Bronze match.

For the 7th time in Baltic Cup history, we see Rimantas Sagatas lifting the cup above his head! The Lithuanian holds more than 50% of the total Baltic titles handed out for the 2nd time in his career (the first time being after his 2nd championship in Season 3). Müür showed consistent high-level performance all season but he was still no match for the Greatest of All Time. Sirel, who has been even more consistent than Müür but got narrowly beaten in the Semi-Final, gets 3rd place as a consolation prize. While the 2 Estonians claimed their first Baltic Cup podiums this season, Zukauskas still has to wait for his.

As for the total number of podiums, all 3 countries almost have equal total medal counts. Lithuania has 14 (8G, 3S, 3B from 5 different managers), Estonia has 13 (2G, 4S, 7B from 7 different managers) and Latvia has 12 (3G, 6S, 3B from 4 different managers) with Rimantas Sagatas (7G, 1S, 1B), Andreas Ramann (2G, 1S, 2B) and Aigars Vitolins (1G, 2S, 2B) being their respective top contributors.

Sagatas wins the final race just as a cherry on top of his 7th Baltic Cup title. Sirel might have missed out on promotion in an extremely tough battle but at least he has a Baltic Cup medal to his name from this season.

Once again, congratulations Rimantas Sagatas , Karl-Martin Müür and Kaur Sirel for reaching the podium in a season where perhaps for the first time during my hosting, all results were published on time (I am also counting this one as on time)! Commiserations to Tomas Zukauskas who will have to keep trying for his first Baltic Cup podium.

No Latvian in Final-4, that's a surprise!
