Hey guys, stop arguing. I think I can prove this.
48/2(9+3)
First do the brackets
9+3=12
So that makes it.
48/2(12)
Now the 2(12) part usually means algebra. so if we make x=12
2x=24
48/2x=2
So it is 2.
I hope that you see the logic in this.
48/2x is NOT 24/x BUT 24*x !!! How many times do we (the "288ers") have to repeat that ?!

I cant believe the results in the poll, i would never guessed not even close, i expected more from gpro, but obviously this brings up the question of who is actually using this forum, plus how do the people play this game if they have no basic knowledge of math.
but it isn't only 12.it is (12) so we need to multiplicate first 2 with 12 and than 48/24=2
you did (9+3) this because you have to brake brackets first. after that we 12. NOT (12) !! ( even we have according to your logic there nothing to do!! this why we don't need to use brackets ) After all we have 48/2*12 at this point patition have to be done before the multiplication.
OK. So the people who think 48÷2*(9+3) = 2, would you also think that 48÷2+(7+3) = 2? Because that would be by the same bracket removal logic you're using.

no, + and - separate terms, so there is no arguable thing there
Yep, the brackets want expanding first. Getting rid of the little multiply sign saves the effort of adding in an extra pair of brackets, like I'd assume you'd want to do if you wanted to make the answer to that equation equal 2?
I'm not sure how this has got 31 pages long though, as long as you know your on notations when working out formulas, there shouldnt be a problem, unless you're taking someone elses crazy test :D
the answer is 2. case closed as far as I am concearned. I thought it was 288 as well at first.
A simple example is a/bc
would you write it as: a/bc=(a/b)*c or a/bc=a/(bc)
option b is correct, but the real moral of the story is dont write a/bc and neither side is a "stupid uneducated troll". Because even math teachers would argue about this.
