Assuming that initial contact is not made via telepathy it seems likely that there would be at least one message passing between managers before they decide to become Facebook or MSN 'friends'?
Unless they were invited by said facebook etc friend in the first place, or by an actual real person, neighbour etc etc.

The actual face to face or existing contact is a possibility (even then i'd expect some in game messages, adding to friendlist etc...) but does anyone really add 'Friends' to Facebook or MSN who they've not had any contact with at all? That smacks a little of insecurity and desperation :)
There will always be exceptions, which is the difficulty as the process can't then be 'automated', what i'm saying is if it looks suspicious in all these ways it is probably not enough of an investigation to simply check that it is not using the same PC as another account.

Believe me, almost everyone add friends without knowing them. Or you think people have a thousand friends on facebook and drink a coffee with them all?

ahhh the insecure and desperate masses!
I just like the idea of someone randomly sending a friend request to someone they've never had any contact with on Facebook with the message 'pssst Wanna join GPRO?'
I still have to switch the computer to Porn if i'm on GPRO when friends or family walk into the room...it's easier to explain and, ulitimately, leads to less grief.

If you want to define it so simple, good.
But I believe the experience is valid to know people in internet that you've probably will never know personally. New and different people, some are interesting, some not. Although I'm not a fan of facebook, but I don't think that people who add an unknow person are necessarily insecure and desperate. Maybe they are only curious and open. ;)

The 'Nigerian Interior Minister' will be pleased! I confess to feeling a little left out that he doesn't seem to want to offer me the chance to make $Millions :(

If they have a very high success rate with very little in game time plus no links to a team, no supporter status, few races and a 'stolen' profile picture that must arouse suspicion? With others I agree if they are extremely low but why do you mention supporter status?? It has nothing to do with success in this game. It just makes things a bit easier.

People running DAs surely rarely want the real life expense of becoming a supporter for the DA and for genuine new managers it does make things easier by providing time saving tools that might mitigate a low time investment a bit. Like I said above things need to be viewed as a whole or unjustified witchhunts happen (rather than [ahem] justified ones?).

Well, imo the best way to catch DA's is to not just rely on one single method to catch them. Using multiple ways is better, especially using behavioral analysis.

We spend far too long playing online games....we'd all fail that!

But what do I do when my son starts playing. He lives with me, has his own pc but still in the same house.
|
|

In that case he will have a different IP adress

As long as you are different person and use different PC there shouldn't be problems

Inform Mr Shadow so he is aware of it, and make sure that you NEVER log in from the wrong computer.

Each PC will have the same IP address but there are ways of getting unique information about what computer is used. As Gordon said, make 100% sure you login into the correct computer otherwise red lights start to flash on both of your accounts and you could both find yourselves without an account

Well this has happened before with Cale Murrey and his son Jordan and one had to stop playing as a result of it.

yep but i really don't want to go there look i basically he has a tough job to do there are real obvious DA but they are probably too smart where the dumb people that get caught as such because we think we have nothing to hide.
i can see why he thought we were DA,s more now and he wanted to play again i told him he is too young :).
i wouldn't play the same game as him online at all now simple

If only it was as simple as flying Mr Shadow to your home to prove it's two different people. The internet is a funny place, and don't really get why people would go and do a double account. Would hate to be in Mr Shadows shoes tbh, like you said, it really isn't an easy task!

Thats why we have the one computer, one player rule.
Whilst far from perfect and doesn't address many suspicious accounts it is the most time effective way of cutting out DAs.
Most other methods are either even less fair or would mean Mr Shadow would need a hoard of minions rivalling Santas for all the checks. :(
Sometimes the rule is applied a little too rigidly though, when it is obvious two separate managers, who are in the game for a long time, accidentally log onto each others computer once and get a suspension of account for it. Considering what others get away with it can seem a little harsh!

Just to name names for this instance, Stu and Heather Gibson. How they were treated was way too harsh, yet a certain Elite account was just brushed over and allowed to continue.

Stu and Heather Gibson. How they were treated was way too harsh, Kind of agree with this, although i dont have all the facts so its hard judge one way or the other. Having said that I dont think Stu did himself any favours with some of the stuff he posted on the forums. I can totally understand his frustration (if he was innocent) but personally think he would have been better off keeping his posts to pm's to the right people. :)
