I have Jetpack, Coin Dozer, Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Temple Run and Mega Jump on my iPhone 5. But those games are all the same on iPad and iPhone I guess.

nasty sneaky company. This is a warning for anyone who lets their young children play on their ipad.

The default setting for purchases is that your password only has to be entered every 15 minutes, this enabled my friends 2 year old to buy 150 bucks worth of in game apps before 15 minutes had run out.

For anyone else, if you are conscientious and would like to sleep at night don't by apple anyway.

Not sure if I should start a new topic for this question or revive this thread. (Latter option chosen, duh)

I'm considering getting an iPad soon.

Just wanted to ask anyone who has an iPad (whatever version, no matter) how long has the device lasted. I've heard of iPads being like really long lasting, and some friends claim their devices has lasted about 5+ years. Anyone here can verify this?

Also, is it really worth the price? Or am I paying for the brand?

Thanks a lot guys! :)

Kenny.

If you are considering Apple, then you are doing it anyway :D

Although true, some devices may be good, but still half the price or more is for the brand :D

Can't comment about iPad's, don't have one. Although I love my iPod 4 :D

If you want something that does what it says on the box then get an iPad. I've had mine for just over 2 years and can't fault it.

I currently use a Dell laptop for work running Windows 7 and have been testing the Surface Pro 3 with windows 8. Does the the Surface Pro 3 replace my laptop or iPad....no. On Monday I will be very happy to return the Surface Pro. Thanks but no thanks.

Kenny the wife's is about 6 months old now and whilst I hate Apple simply because they want top money for middle range specs she is more than happy with it. I got her the 64MB version of the IPad Air and expect it to last at least 3 years, as with most Apple products, any improvement in the 'new' model with be marginal at best ;)

Personally for what I paid for it I would rather have put it towards an all singing laptop but obviously sometimes you have to bite the bullet - and do what you'r told rofl.

iPad v Others...

I have an iPad air 32GB. I obtained mine for 'free' through saving loyalty points on a CC but regardless of that and the fact that I don't necessarily like apple for the prices that they charge and the way they lock things down, I chose the iPad because what I have found with the apple mobile devices is that they just work and the apps work.

While this comments is not about operating systems it forms a comparison all the same. I see apple v android a bit the same as windows v linux. With apple and windows, when you buy software, the install process works and the software does what you want. With android (my experience with earlier devices) and linux, you need a bit more time to spend learning them to get them to work as well, more of a techie device/OS.

I originally bought my wife an android phone but have since replaced it with an iPhone 5, i got sick of how do I do this, what's happened here......and so on, and so on,,so on,,peace of mind for me. After learning the iPhone, no further training from me.

Now, this isn't to say android (or linux) isn't any good, it is that the apple stuff works, easy to use and the apps work and the app store is also easy to find things.

David, I did think of a second hand iPad before, but I'm not exactly sure I want a second hand one. I know of people who use their iPads (almost) exclusively for porn and I really would like a piece of mind when swiping my screen. ;p

Totally agree with this, which is kinda of why I only thought of getting an iPad Air after Apple released the iPad Air 2. Rofl. Mairo I have the same thinking as you, but I certainly hope the price drop offsets paying for the brand haha. Or I guess I could always wait till Christmas and hope for the retailer to have Christmas sales.

I assume the iPad wins the Surface Pro hands down then?

Oh and Giles I see that you have taken the easy way out, my dad bought my mum an iphone for the exact same reason :D

They are two very different devices targeted at two very different market segments. The Surface Pro is intended to be more of an ultraportable laptop/tablet hybrid. The iPad is just intended to be a tablet. With a Surface Pro you can not only run all of the Windows tablet software but you also get all of the capabilities of full-blown Windows on a laptop as well. For people like me who like to have very portable, full-featured Windows devices on the go it's a great device. But it is much more than just a tablet, and is priced accordingly.

Honestly, if you aren't sure then I'd say go for the iPad.. I bought one for my wife who is not very tech savvy, and she loves it. Apps designed for it just work with no hassles. After the first day/initial setup she hasn't asked me a single question about "how do I do...", unlike with the old Android tablet that she used to use.

Been a while since anyone spoke on here and not sure it is the right place for this but I am having snags with my iPad right now as I am getting a box come up and it stops me using my iPad. When I click cancel, I can use it but the box comes back up every 10 secs or so and I just cannot get rid of it.

"Cannot verify Server Identity"
The identity of "dev.one49digital.com" cannot be verified.

under that are two words Details and Cancel.

When I cancel, it goes away but keeps coming back and will not let me use the pad while it is there

When I click details - nothing happens although it disappears - but then 10 secs later - it comes back

I have tried several google searches and several solutions which does not solve the problem, but I think it has something to do with "Mail" as eventually after 20 mins or so it seems to disappear but always comes back when I click on mail.

I have switched it off several times to try and "re-boot" but it still comes back - starting to get a little "pissed off" now so does anyone have any ideas

They will have to be instructions written for "idiots" - thats me :)

How old is your ipad? Mine was an ipad 3 and it lost support about 2/3 years ago. Toward the end it was a pain to use, biggest problem was it freezing quite frequently. I find Apple to be pretty poor when it comes to supporting products over even a medium term sadly. Its in their interest, to keep users cornered to their market and buy/replace items once 5 years passed. They did something similar to iTunes which rendered anyone using an ipod classic requiring to either upgrade it or faff around with manually syncing/managing their music library. Could be that your pad has just come to its inevitable conclusion Alan, I could be wrong...am I hope I am. Depends how old it is really.

@Alan Halford (A39) yes it is related to your email reader.
A short-term fix is to close your mail reader while doing something else.

Longer term have you tried things like recommended here

Thnks guys - in the end I have deleted "Mail" and the problem has gone away.

Means I don't get e-mails on my iPad anymore but I can live with that.

Tried putting "Mail" back on and it was such a faff getting passwords and the like - I gave up.... so e-mails will remain the domain of my pc from now on

Thanks for all the replies
