Hi Rainer,

No the drivers receive no points in the TTT. I do stick to the official Tour de France qualifications, and in the Tour de France ranking of this stage we do get the team classification of this stage.

Only the points for having a new leader in one of the different classifications where awarded this stage.

It's a good thing that we have only one TTT. ;)

Hi Basile,

If you want you can still make a team and participate. I guess this will be no problem for the other managers ?

But you wont receive points for the first two stages of course, this wouldn't be fair to the other managers.

Hi, thanks for the offer.

STAGE 3. BINCHE - ÉPERNAY

Julian Alaphilippe brings the yellow jersey back to France.

World’s number 1 Julian Alaphilippe powered to victory with a strong attack with 16km to go behind breakaway rider Tim Wellens in the hills of the Champagne area. A solo winner in Epernay, he took over from Mike Teunissen to become the first Frenchman in the lead of the Tour de France since Tony Gallopin in 2014.

Five riders in the lead
176 riders took the start of stage 3 in Binche. Yoann Offredo, a member of the Binche-based Wanty-Groupe Gobert team, was first to attack from the gun but he was reeled in by a very active peloton. Two kilometres further, the Frenchman rode away again with four other riders: Tim Wellens (Lotto-Soudal), Anthony Delaplace (Arkéa-Samsic), Paul Ourselin (Total Direct Energie) and Stéphane Rossetto (Cofidis). They enjoyed a slightly downhill first part of the course and a nice tailwind to cover almost 47km in the first hour of racing. Tony Martin (Jumbo-Visma) led the bunch by himself until the maximum time gap was recorded while the leading quintet passed the 80th kilometre: 6’15’’. That was the moment chosen by Deceuninck-Quick Step to ask Kasper Asgreen to speed up. The time difference was stabilized around 3’30’’ with 100km to go.

Tim Wellens’ one-man-show
In front of the magnificent cathedral of Reims with 69km to go, the deficit of the peloton was below two minutes with Jumbo-Visma and Deceuninck-Quick Step still at the helm. The breakaway riders swapped turns efficiently until Wellens attacked with 48km to go before the climb of Nanteuil-la-Forêt. 30km before the end, as the French quartet was brought back by the pack, the advantage of Wellens was 1’50’’. The Belgian secured the polka dot jersey at the côte de Champillon with 25km to go where a difference of 1’10’’ with the peloton was recorded.

Julian Alaphilippe on a classics mode
Wellens was caught by Alaphilippe at the top of the côte de Mutigny with 16km to go while he had a flat tyre so the Frenchman continued solo. Michael Woods (EF), third at the top, Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe), Alexey Lutsenko (Astana) and Mikel Landa (Movistar) went in between but got reeled in 9km before the end while Alaphilippe forged on. He forced Team Ineos to ride behind him and managed to stay away. The Frenchman crossed the line with an advantage of 26’’ over Michael Matthews who outsprinted the rest of the main peloton. He’s the new leader of the Tour de France.

Alex Martez took the win in the first stage in this game, so he did automaticily take the yellow yersey in this competition also.
The second day with the team time trial we did have several managers who took the stage win because they did have W. Van Aert in their team. But Alex Martez who won the first stage remained in the lead in the overall Classification.

So he's still our Yellow yersey in this competition. Same story with the stage of today.

In my humble opinion it was too easy to score points by having a jersey in the last Giro d'Italia competition. I can't judge about how things went when Jukka still organised this funny competition, because I wasn't member of GPRO back then yet.

Jukka's game rules say "Moving into the lead of classification (yellow-green-polka dot-white)" , so it was my perception that you would only get points when you take over a certain jersey. Sorry if I misjudged that.

But to build in a extra dimention in the game, I thought this would be a good way. In the end it is more difficult to predict the next jersey holder then to buy/transfer/switch a rider who already has a certain jersey.

At the end of the competition, a bonus is already given to the riders who finish within the first of the general classification and the other subclassifications. So by giving "jersey points" for just holding on to a certain jersey, a manager would get a double bonus in a very cheap way.

This way it is a little bit harder.

But this and the scores for the TTT are the only things that are not the same with the way Jukka organised the different Grand Tour competitions. Concerning those TTT, I will check the way it was done in the passed and will adapt in the next Grand Tour.

Thanks for the feedback by the way João, I'm very happy with that because I just want to organize a fun game for us all. :)

João, you are correct that "way back when" it was this way -- but I think in the last few, Jukka changed it to the way that Upeo is running it now.

IIRC, it was because once there was an obvious yellow jersey (or others), everyone just transferred them into the team, which effectively froze the game and didn't allow much movement in the standings -- the teams became very uniform. So Upeo has the right idea -- great job so far!

I choose Van Aert because after TTT many points possible with jersey.. with your rules 20 pts ah ah a joke ^^
The same with Alaphilippe..

You advantage " no strategy" , with your rules, choose regular top 3 + final ranking and wait..
Where is the fun ? battle is good.. my rules or Jukka are not very good, but mix to 2 is good.

Ranking stage + points escape sprint/mountain + point jeyser/day + combativity+ final ranking and Jersey. ( and not possible to take guy with Jersey).

down point escape and jersey to my rules ( 5/10/15-sprint mountain, 20 jersey) but ranking stage, your point are very hard after top 3.. it's not good for ride up to the ranking, and battle. Many strategy are possible for win points.

Hmm, I think it's fair to only win the jersey points when the jersey switches the owner, as it is now. The GC classification will render points for those owners that have a good GC rider for a long strech of stages. Giving points just for holding on the jersey would seem redundant in this circumstances.

My opinion.

STAGE 4. REIMS - NANCY :

Elia Viviani takes maiden Tour de France victory.

Elia Viviani maintained a tradition alive as he scored the sixth Italian stage win in sixteen stage finishes in Nancy after Fausto Coppi, Aldo Parecchini, Lorenzo Bernucci and Matteo Trentin. He even received the help of race leader Julian Alaphilippe to win a bunch sprint ahead of Alexander Kristoff and Caleb Ewan.

Schär, Backaert and Offredo in the lead
176 riders took the start of stage 4 in Reims. Michael Schär (CCC), Frederik Backaert and Yoann Offredo (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) attacked from the gun. Their advantage of 3’10’’ after 10km of racing was established as a norm by the chasing teams of Lotto-Soudal, Jumbo-Visma and Deceuninck-Quick Step. They respectively designated Maxime Monfort, Tony Martin and Yves Lampaert to set the pace. The maximum time gap was 3’40’’ at côte des Rosières (km 121). Two crashes affected several riders including Tony Gallopin (AG2R-La Mondiale), Patrick Konrad (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Gianni Moscon (Ineos) but everyone got back on.

Lilian Calmejane for 6km at the front
The deficit of the peloton decreased slightly with 2’35’’ being recorded 80km before the end. It remained all under control for the sprinters’ teams with a deficit of 1’30’’ with 50km to go. The gap was down to 40’’ as 40km were yet to be covered. Schär attacked with 30km remaining. Backaert reacted and Offredo was reeled in. The sprinters’ teams were in no hurry to catch the leading duo. Schär dropped Backaert off up the côte de Maron but he was also brought back by the pack before the top with 16.5km to go. Lilian Calmejane (Total Direct Energie) attacked from the compact bunch with 11km to go. The Frenchman remained at the front with 6’’ lead for 6km until the peloton led by Lotto-Soudal brought him back.

Julian Alaphilippe positions Elia Viviani
White jersey holder Wout van Aert led the charge for Dylan Groenewegen with 1km to go but yellow jersey Julian Alaphilippe positioned the Deceuninck-Quick Step train at the front and Elia Viviani made the most of his train formed of Max Richeze and Michael Morkov to overtake Alexander Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates) at the very end. He completes his Grand Tour trilogy after he won stages at the Giro d’Italia and La Vuelta previously. The last Italian stage winner at the Tour was Fabio Aru at La Planche des Belles Filles two years ago. In four stages, only two teams have won so far: Jumbo-Visma and Deceuninck-Quick Step.

Harno that's the same for a lot of managers. Me myself I do also have Van Aert en Wellens (white jersey and polka dot jersey.).

But it was written in the game rules very clearly, so I don't understand the confusion. In the game rules is written "MOVING into the lead" and not "HAVING the lead".

I didn't change anything and just copy/paste it from Jukka.

And I do think that you need more strategy this way then the other way around. When a rider has the yellow jersey and he would score points for having that certain jersey every stage, everybody will pick that rider. So there is no strategy in that, it's just a question of transfering the riders with a jersey.
With the current game rules, you don't have that anymore.

Colbrelli not in the sprint :(
My mistake not to get more sprinters in the first week.

All my hope is on S. KRUIJSWIJK hehehe

Still 16 stages to come and everything still to play, don't worry the whole overall classification can still turn around. Keeping touch with the leaders in the overall classification without spending to much transfers to soon will be decisive I think.

And picking the scoring riders of course. hihihi ;)

Should have taken more sprinters and than change them with climbers if I had read the rules better.
Having Sagan and Alaphillipe isn't that good as I thought it would be.

See you on Friday, I am heading towards Colmar tomorrow and than standing at planche de belles filles on thursday.
