Alternative EPL is a silly game which runs alongside the real life Premier League season.
Games will commence on Saturday 21st August 2021 and should be every weekend (except International Match weekends) I have missed the 1st week as I needed extra time to try to get my head around the spreadsheet.....
The aim of the game is to Win the Premier League but you don't need a top team to help you achieve that, as you will discover with the scoring method. See example below under scoring. A top team can help you though - as long as everybody else isn't selecting them to win! Likewise a smaller team can also help if not picked so often but continues to score well
Please be aware that teams not picked may well score more goals than you if in the game, if they score well and win and not many managers pick them to win. We will be using the same rules that the previous host Alan Halford had for Season 5
You must also pick an available EPL team to "support" / when you Join but most important YOU CANNOT pick that team in your 5 selections each week, so pick wisely.
Please check the participant list toward the bottom of this post for priority managers and teams. I will update it as managers pick their "SUPPORT" team
Each WEEKEND you must pick 5 teams in the thread who you think will win in that round of EPL fixtures. There may also be MIDWEEK matches on the fixture list so keep an eye on the thread. Your scheduled opponent for each match weekend will correspond exactly with your team's real life opponent. as I said we will be using the same system for scoring so, as Alan said last year "... there is an anomaly that with teams not picked, ( i.e. no predictions) --- they do still score some goals because of the nature that they may have been selected by other managers, so the "maths" just does its thing and awards goals according to the formula , and so NORMALLY although they have no manager THEY MAY STILL SCORE GOALS AGAINST YOU …. And dependent on YOUR choices, they may even score more than you, however this season ….................. if there are no picks for ANY team, the new rules will be for Teams without a Manager (or if one leaves part way through) ….....
The following rule will apply
MISSING TEAMS
The top 5 AWAY teams in the fixture list will be entered for every MISSING selection each week. This will put extra emphasis on each manager making his/her best possible choice each week"
In addition – if there are any matches postponed short notice, they will be awarded a 1-1 draw
SCORING
You'll score goals like so :
Your team's RL goals scored
PLUS the number of correct match wins predicted * 1.5 (This will give more importance to picking a team that wins
MINUS the number of times your team was picked * 0.2 (if they won)
It is then rounded to the nearest whole number (As this is the first season using this amended scoring system, there may be some HIGH scoring so it may need tweaking for future seasons
Example :
Man City win 3-1 against Brighton in RL.
Man City supporter correctly predicted 3 wins out of their 5 chosen teams.
Man City was picked 13 times by other players to beat Brighton.
Brighton supporter correctly predicted 4 wins out of their 5 chosen teams.
Brighton was picked 3 times by other players to beat Man City.
Man City sum = 4.90 ---- (3 + 4.50 - 2.60)
3 (Goals scored) + 4.50 (correct predicts * 1.5) - 2.60 (Team picked * 0.2)
Man City scored rounded up to 5
Brighton sum = 6.40 ----- (1 + 6.0 - 0.6)
1 + 6.0 - 0.6
Brighton rounded down to 6
This however will totally change if Brighton is picked 13 times as it will change Brighton's score to 4.40, so it goes to prove it is about making the right 5 picks each week AND the amount of times your teams are picked more so than the team you support. Hopefully this scoring system puts more emphasis on picking 5 correct teams than picking the best "Support" team although you still need a team who scores well and consistently.
PLEASE BE AWARE that this is done for each team selection you make so not just 1 team ---- i.e. there are 6 team calculations taken into account - your "Support" team and your 5 selections
When your team has had all the calculations done, Normal points will be scored for the overall outcome, 3 points will be awarded for a win against your opponent and 1 point for a draw. NIL points for a defeat.
RULES
1. IF you miss 4 weeks in a row without good reason you will be dropped from the game and replaced by the next reserve.
2. Please try to commit to the FULL possibly 38 week schedule before you enter your name if you can.
3. Your selections must be posted in the thread before any of your chosen teams have kicked off.
4. You may pick week by week or as many weeks in advance if you wish however fixtures change, so once again, watch the thread
5. You cannot pick more than ONE team from a match fixture (i.e. you cannot pick both teams - 1 home and 1 away).
6. VERY IMPORTANT - You cannot pick the team you chose to support on any game week.
7. You also cannot pick teams for consecutive game weeks (If you picked Arsenal last week, you cannot pick them in the next).
8. You must make all of your 5 choices for each weekend in the same post.
POST NO PICKS IN A GAME WEEK AND YOUR TEAM WILL SCORE GOALS ACCORDING TO THE NEW RULE CHANGE FOR "NO PICKS"
Choosing your SUPPORT team
Priority will be given to those who completed Season 5 and then the remainder of the positions will be filled on a first come first served basis
but choosing a team will be down to "the criteria" mentioned below so you may not get your choice of last season
All managers who played last season will get priority and then new managers will then get to pick. No manager will be able to pick the same team as they picked the season before (unless that is the only team left)
Each manager wishing to participate should post #Join with their 3 top choices in order of preference. Any posts with less than 3 choices will go to the bottom of the priority order... I shall then put those choices into my spreadsheet and allocate teams accordingly, working up in order from the bottom of last season's table.
I may participate but will make way if I get 20 managers joining. I can always take over a team IF we have any managers drop out. The teams I would prefer would be Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Leicester but not necessarily in that order and of course dependent on how many managers join.

I don't understand anything. The table says that Man Utd is mine. I confirmed, then I see that Ralf also chose Man Utd. What am I really left with? Am I forced to choose more support teams or is Man Utd enough?

You were Man Utd last season, so you cannot be them this season. This is why I have changed.

You were Man Utd last season, so you cannot be them this season. This is why I have changed.
