I didn't expect personal comments about this, name 1 Australian who thinks the GP is better? well me that's 1 and probably Paul Stoddart and Mark Webber but I won't speak for them. Also the Australian GP has been around long before it was F1 it was held at Lobethal and Albert Park since the 1930's I believe Roberto Moreno won the last non F1 GP at Albert Park.
Cheers Myron

Australian GP is much much better. THey also use to race at Warwick Farm in NSW inside the race horse track, similar to the track at Sandown in Melbourne.
Bathurst was better when it was production cars and not Super V8's as it is now. Many years ago it was all classes of cars from 4 cylinders through to the V8's. Whoever won Bathurst then that car became the NSW Police Force's car the following year but that has all changed now and there are only 2 cars running and takes a lot of interest out of the race.
Did yo now that the Mini Cooper won Bathurst many moon's ago? It is true.

How The Hell can anyone in the right mind say the GP is better....!!!! What so you find it more exicting watching cars driving around a track in a line...
While you get Bathurst, door to door banging, all seasons in the 1 race.... a much more Aussie atmosphere, sitting on the mountain with a slab and your swag.... Far out, you cant do that at the GP.... I have been to the GP 8 years now at Albert Park, and i been to Bathurst 14 times...
Bathurst is a much more happy and fun atmosphere then the GP could ever dream of being!

Did yo now that the Mini Cooper won Bathurst many moon's ago? It is true. Now you're showing your age Steven - that was back in 1966! when coincidentally one of the co-winner's name was Bob "Holden" - the name of the car manufacturer taking out the top 4 places in the race today. And that was before the big V8's got going and could do more than 10 laps on a full tank of juice (slight exageration). Sort of like the tortoise and the hare story there.

I believe Roberto Moreno won the last non F1 GP at Albert Park. Myron, I think you'll find it was Calder Park raceway where the Roberto won. That's where the Aussie GP was held for much of the early 80's before F1 went to Adelaide for the GP. I went to a few of those races at Calder.
Meanwhile, great work HRT (my Aussie team) and all the top 4 (Holdens) for an exciting finish to the great race today!
And great work Michael Caruso (I've known his parents since before Michael was born) for showing us all that you should never give up. He spun at the top of the mountain, miraculously missed the walls on both sides of the track, waited for the track to clear before continuing - then finished the race in 3rd! Never give up!

Bob "Holden"
Did you know Bob Holden raced in the mini series last year at Bathurst?

Calder.
Calder is simply a fantastic race track, it may be short and not the same facilitys as moden day circuits, but doing Formula 3 and Aussie Racing Car tests around there are some of my highlights of my life, and a 2 littre production car race last year (won race 3) ..
Then there was back in the early 90's watching my dad drag race out there in his 57 Chevy, in Super Sedans, and watching the NASCAR's on the Dome
That place was amazing in its hay days

and a 2 littre production car race last year (won race 3) .. Hi Peter, nice to read that you have some racing blood in you. Onya! I did some club racing at Calder in 1981/2.
In 1980, during the Aussie GP (non F1) weekend at Calder, I had a chat with Alan Jones (just crowned F1 world champ in the F1 Williams), Bruno Giacomelli (in the F1 Alfa Romeo) and Didier Pironi (just signed to race for Ferrari). I had to wait till 6pm to get to meet Alan Jones because he stayed in the circuit infield away from the fans all day. Ah the memories.

I did 22 yrs in the Air Force, 3 yrs karting and 1 yr race engineer for a Formula 2 team in the NSW titles too. So we have more in common.
