I wouldn't choose a male. He would be "allergic" to the human male too. I mean, he would under great threats, ambushes and front attacks. If the human male causes breaks in any tiny little routine he's dead. Or the cat will go out and never come back, let alone bring any gift.
Better a female. He would have to fix his allergy. But don't even think of breaking routines. And she won't be left outside the door all alone. No way.

Luke Frost thought he would treat his dog to a day being pampered but when she went to collect him she thought something seemed off as the dog was looking at her suspiciously
A middle aged man from Australia was left gobsmacked after leaving the dog groomers as he thought his pooch was acting a bit strange - then he realised that he'd been given someone else's pet.
Luke Frost took his dog, 10-month-old Lucky, for a trim at his local salon and afterwards he took a photo of the canine, who appeared to be leaning forwards and squinting suspiciously at the camera.
But the 31-year-old programming dork felt compelled to video-call his girlfriend Lucy to try and figure out why her usually affectionate Maltese Poodle looked so shifty.
It was only when she repeatedly called Lucky's name and got no response, noticed differences in his fur pattern and that his usually smooth pink paws were 'crusty' that she realised it wasn't him.

And there is a "proper" forum already to debug all gender related bugs. It's like when you read about your female driver comments in GPRO. You're not a newbie anymore.
