Mock drafting is good practice, but only to get your priorities straight.

Hmm, I wouldn't put brady in the top 5, first round pick, perhaps but not top 5. I can't make the draft so been sorting through my picks over the past couple of days. I could get screwed over if those in front of me pick my top 2.
I think a couple of players are gonna have massive seasons so may be reaching a bit in early rounds, but hard to guess what others will pick before me - hate it when I can't get on a computer for live drafts!

I'll be there with bells on, looking to clear up the scraps that those in front of me leave behind :)

I'll be there. Good luck, everyone. 25 minutes and counting down.

can only do so if we make it a commissioner league, this is just a seasonal free league as it is.
If we had 12 committed guys though that wanted to be in a GPRO keeper/dynasty league league every season tho, i'm there!

Just one quick announcement. Please remember to check/update your trading blocks. The reason why I mention this: I am currently searching for a good WR. I'm currently in a position to give up Redman, Sproles (even though he plays for my Saints), and/or Fred Jackson (only if the deal is really sweet).
Offers are currently welcome.

Sent you a message - I believe it emails you for things like that, I got one when you put them on the block at least
|
|
|
I got the email too, regarding the 'on the block'. however, i have no want or need to trade at this time.

I wasn't too pleased to auto-draft Brees, as I was on my mobile phone at the time, but now that I have the top TE (as well as a favourite target for Brees) in Jimmy Graham, I'm kinda pleased about how my draft went, with the exception of RB and maybe a better WR.

I wasn't too please you auto drafted brees either! I was picking him behind you :P
Happy with the team I ended up with though, very solid at my 3 WR spots, and decent enough at RB/QB/TE,

Hmm...Must be a Falcons fan. In that case, Ryan for Brees straight up? :D

Wait...how'd you get Brees and Graham? I ended up with this combo in a different 8 team league that I'm in (I had the 8th pick, and there is a lot less emphasis on the QB position in that league, so Brees fell. Additionally, I reached for Graham figuring that he was a better receiver than anyone else on the board since Calvin Johnson went really early). Unlike this league, I am actually in need of running backs in my other league.
Now I just need to figure out how I can trade players between leagues. Give me Dwayne Bowe and Lance Moore in this league and Fred Jackson in the other league and I'll win both!

You couldn't be more wrong, pal ;)

Matt Ryan may have a breakout year with receivers Roddy White and Julio Jones, but he's not ready to remove the label of a 'Dome QB.' No deal :p

Elementary, my fellow American: this is what happens when drafting against a bunch of Europeans. Add to that I had the 4th pick in round 2, and that's how I scored big in the first 2 rounds :D

Your team sucks, you're going down Mason! :P

I'd Say he's already had his breakout year. Rather, will he have a career season, in 2012?

Has you down with an edge of 10 now. Though you really cant trust week 1 game predictions some 3 weeks in advance :)

Guys, you're more experienced than me ... but I can't stand 2 facts in FFL:
1) last night I saw IND-PIT: Ben R. trhow behind line of scrimmage sort of a screen pass to A. Brown; he made 57 YAC and a TD. QB will receive 6 points for a TD pass .. is that right? or fair?
2) some team has a specilized RB, running only on the goal line for a TD rush. Is it possible that in a drive a RB rushes for 50 Tds, another one rushes for a 1 Yd TD and this one gets 1 more point than the first? Is that fair?
|
|
|
1) Using your example, the QB will receive 6pts for the TD, AND will receive 1 point for every 25yds gained. It's fair, because these are standard FF rules.
2) Using your example, the primary RB gets 5pts for 50yds rushing, and the short yardage RB get 6pts for the 1yd rushing TD. It's fair, because these are standard FF rules.
|
|
|
I know that are standards!
But fair .... far away to be fair!
|
|
|
As Alan and you both said, these are standard. It's based on how the NFL keeps their stats. It's also part of the strategy of FF, to consider these things.
If you want to say it's not fair to the players, that's another matter, and one that's really not FF. But in the end, we're all playing the same rules, so it's a fair fight. These are things you have to keep in mind.

Matty Ice has the weapons to do so, but like I said earlier.....

And I must say that my Broncos are looking better, at least the 1st team offense and defense. Yeah, Peyton Manning has some work to do to return to his MVP form, but he's not throwing to Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne or Dallas Clark like he was back in Indy; he's throwing to lesser receivers in Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas, and Jacob Tamme. In the last pre-season game, Tamme dropped a TD pass from Manning with no one around him for at least 2 yards, and Decker dropped a pass over the middle (a pass I've never seen him drop) with no one near him for 5 yards. Defense, however, is my team's ray of hope, as the D-Line looks brutal, stuffing the run on a constant basis, and putting pressure on the QB on nearly every passing down.
I just need to remember to keep an eye on my fantasy players while I watch my Broncos this season ;)

I think most NFL teams now operate this strategy. Specialist backs for specialist roles makes sense, and spreads the risk of over paying one guy to do all those jobs.
My comeback would be, if you don't like the way the NFL now treats RB's (& in particular the FFL scoring), then you should put your top picks into receivers who will be on the pitch no matter whether the drive is at their own 1yd line, or the oppositions 1yd line
:)

Quote ( Neil Barron @ August 20th 2012,21:53:30 ) Specialist backs for specialist roles makes sense, and spreads the risk of over paying one guy to do all those jobs.
Take it back to a couple seasons ago: the Titans did this very thing with RBs Chris Johnson and LenDale White. Johnson was their speed/finesse back, able to break off long runs from pitch plays & runs outside the offensive tackle, whereas White was their power/short yardage back, smashing through the middle of the line to get the tough yards and even tougher TDs on the goal line.
Recently, the Broncos have been doing this "committee back" system, where at least 3 different RBs would carry the ball throughout a single game, and another 1 or 2 would go out on 3rd down plays and make a couple catches.
Overall, the days of a single feature back (Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, to name a few) are long gone. RBs only last maybe 8 seasons before they fall off production-wise (see LaDanian Tomlinson of the Chargers or Clinton Portis of the Redskins), and knee injuries hurt them the worst (Adrian Peterson of the Vikings & Terrell Davis of the Broncos spring to mind). That's why NFL teams stockpile quality RBs (49ers are deep at the position this season), to rotate them all out and keep them all healthy throughout the entire season. Sometimes it works (Willis McGahee is a good example), sometimes it doesn't (Jamaal Charles is another example). So glad I didn't pursue playing QB back in high school after suffering a knee injury in practice....
