Jed, the people are clearly wrong.

Cheers for hosting JB, really liked the genre restrictions and clearly it made the rounds much more varied. Definitely would like to see a Genre Genius 2 at some point.

Not much of a surprise that I gave rock and alternative most of my votes, though pop and dance were a bit of a surprise.

Yeah boy! :)
Glad to win the Cup against Mikko. I was surprised my Stevie Wonder original got as many points as it did. I thought that would be my downfall.
Cheers JB for the wonderful edition of GPROvision! Who wants to follow that? :D
I can do a single round edition if anyone is interested? That can start in a couple of weeks or so.

Paul Simon seems to like the cover though. I rate appreciation by its author higher than anonymous internet reviewers saying "the cover is bad because it's impossible to cover this song".
Spot on...

Thats fair, there are plenty of publications that dislike it too. And for the record, I couldn't care less about it butchering the original song.

I mean, I totally understand that someone might not like the cover (or the original), but this cover is definitely not something objectively bad-without-doubt.
I, personally, quite like this version. Although it might be because I expected something much worse when I first heard that Disturbed covered this song, so it was a pleasant surprise to me compared to my expectations.

And it also was a revelation that I actually had been in contact with Calum a few years back when I tried to recruit him to write for my magazine, showing how small the world is. And just for the record, he managed to ignore my bait, lol.

Great job hosting Jon (not just saying that because I won, honest), I really enjoyed having a mixed bag of music included.
I'm suprised that Kim Wilde didn't scored better, but to be honest I don't really care given I'm still so stuned I managed to win the whole thing and not muck it up in the last round!

Thanks for the game Jonathan! Really liked the idea of a Genre restrictions in this way and enjoyed this a very big amount.
However like I implied earlier, I still think a few genres should be dropped in a later edition. Especially instrumental and Comedy, and I would probably also think about dropping/merging Industrial and Alternative into Rock because we get really close entries with it as with Rock. And I would probably drop Soundtrack unless it was clearly a Disney kind of song / theaterically performed song, and not a TV theme like I'll Be Ready even-if-that-should-have-won-that-round-you-fools
I would also not strictly use Wikipedia's definition as the genre that gets picked - for example I would reject Bleed It Out being a hippityhoppity song by hand, and going by these genres put it under Alternative then or even Rock. I would probably make it more about what genre the artist/band generally represents, even if everything is not black and white.

Including or excluding 5a votes, my top 6 seemed to be the same people in both departments.
Gave points to:
32 - Jed (32 if including 5a) 28 - Guilherme (30) 27 - Julio (34) 27 - Jun (27) 23 - Marvin (23) 22 - Sam (32)
Interesting to see that Canada and Finland were pretty apart in this game, hardly any points flow between Alex/Ivelin and me lol. Only the Welsh department was more silent, and then the even more silent US department.
Received points from
34 - Jonathan Beagles (34) 28 - Sebastian Jozwiak (32) 22 - Cameron Halsall (28) 22 - Sam Wrycraft (28) 21 - Jed Howorth (24) 20 - Sudeep Pednekar (26)
Glad to see some of my songs did appeal to you six! Amusing also that Guilherme has again nicely dodged my songs whereas I have given him the second highest points ;D

Agreed on instrumental and comedy being obsolete, but I think industrial and alternative have their place. I think the main issue is the subgenres listed under each of those, particularly alternative (alt rock, hard rock, prog, etc should all come under rock imo, and I guess it would be fair enough to shift most of the punk genres under rock as well). Genres like shoegaze, new wave and the like are what I would put under the alternative umbrella.
Industrial doesn't really need much changing besides perhaps shifting industrial metal and NDH to the rock section (guilty of abusing that in round 1 haha). The majority of industrial music is quite self-contained outwith both rock and electronic.
