The weather reported in the first lap of the race report has a hidden space after the string, eg

"Rain" -> "Rain "

eg 2 Making it less obvious so you see how annoying this is...

This has literally taken me hours to debug why my data collector fails, can this be fixed so no one else has this pain? :)

You can use find, mid, left, len (etc) to isolate these words within a string:

I know trim, and clean, but that is no consolation after spending ages debugging. It' just a little messy having 1 cell with a random white space character when everything else is ok!

It's fairly common for browsers to ignore leading and trailing spaces in leaf html elements.
It's also fairly common to find inconsistencies in GPRO's html structure.

Adapt your big bad data collector accordingly ;)
